Less than twelve months ago, Italian watch manufacturer U-Boat combined two of their most iconic designs into one: the Capsoil with its oil-immersed movement and dial and the Doppiotempo offering a useful dual time complication. Today, that series extends to include a new range of U-Boat Capsoil Doppiotempo Colour watches featuring bold accents of white, green and red.
Last year’s U-Boat Capsoil Doppiotempo watch collection was the perfect marriage of the brand’s past and present. The Doppiotempo model embodies their history, dating back to 1938 designed originally for use by the Italian army’s parachute assault regiment, the Col Moschin. The U-Boat Capsoil on the other hand symbolises their aptitude for modern innovation, first debuting in 2019 as the world’s first watch with a mechanism and dial completely immersed in an oil bath. The result is breathtaking, not only aesthetically as the dial showcases an ink-black finish and a wandering compensation bubble, but it allows for complete lubrication of the movement inside.
The original U-Boat Capsoil Doppiotempo watches featured the classic ink-black dial with a choice of a stainless steel or black DLC treated case. It also opted for traditional beige-coloured markers on the internal bezel and a red GMT hand. For the new U-Boat Capsoil Dopptiotempo Colour watches, we are given three new colourways: a black dial with green markings, a black dial with red markings and a crisp white dial. Each new dial is then presented with a 45mm case engineered from bare stainless steel or black DLC coating.
One of the most distinctive models in the new series is the U-Boat Capsoil Doppiotempo White. From memory, there’s never been a Capsoil dial in this colour before with the ink-black finish a typical characteristic of the collection. The crisp white finish is stunning and still looks magnificent with the compensation bubble floating around the dial. The same three-dimensional effect is also achieved as though the sapphire crystal glass above is not there. The white-dialled U-Boat Capsoil Doppiotempo watch also presents its hands, numbers and indexes in black Superluminova.
The other two U-Boat Capsoil Doppiotempo Colour watches are typical in their deep black centrepieces which again shows off the oil seeping between the case, movement and dial. This time for a pop of colour, the typically beige-coloured hardware is now paired with accents of red or green on the internal rotating bezel scale and on the GMT hand. Like its white counterpart, these designs are also housed beneath domed sapphire crystal glass and brighten up at night thanks to Superluminova inserts.
Aforementioned, the 45mm cases of the new U-Boat Capsoil Doppiotempo Colour watches come in a choice of stainless steel or black DLC. There are two crowns in their respective case material located on the left hand side, one for adjusting the time and another for adjusting the second time setting. The case back also showcases the brand’s innovative locking ring system, a feature designed especially for their Capsoil watch to allow for a quick battery replacement without a single drop of oil spilled. We’re also treated to a water resistance of 100 metres and an ultra-resistant vulcanised rubber strap in black closed by a traditional pin buckle.
