Perrelet Turbine Carbon Rainbow Limited Edition Watch Review

Combining one of their first ever carbon fibre cases with a colourful dotted Turbine dial, Swiss watch manufacturer Perrelet joins the rest of the industry in celebrating colour with the launch of the Perrelet Turbine Carbon Rainbow watch. The design is limited to only 50 pieces.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ll have seen the abundance of colourful watch designs launched this year. For decades, the industry has led a pretty conservative life, preferring displays dressed in silver, black and navy. More recently, it’s been the brightest and most daring dials that have taken centre stage. Whether it’s bold pink Oris ProPilot X watches, neon turquoise Breitling Superoceans or forest green IWC Portugieser watches, colour has proven its place in the luxury watch world. Also establishing their position is Perrelet who rather than selecting just one colour, decided to pick them all. The Perrelet Turbine Carbon Rainbow Limited Edition features a spectrum of colours across its dial with rainbow accents on the large Arabic numerals and on the backdrop to its iconic Turbine rotor.

With an already well-established reputation for experimentation and ground-breaking aesthetics, the launch of the Perrelet Turbine Carbon Rainbow Limited Edition watch is no surprise. According to the press release, the brand’s creative team became inspired by artwork like the ‘drip paintings’ by famous early 20th-century American painter, Paul Jackson Pollock who would similarly use lots of dots and splashes of colour. The shades applied include red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet which are splashed across the black dial placed behind the Turbine propellers. The same colours are then reused on the large Arabic numerals and indexes of the outer dial. These, alongside the hour and minute hands, also glow in the dark thanks to Superluminova inserts. The central seconds hand is adorned in a shiny red lacquer.

For the case of the Perrelet Turbine Carbon Rainbow Limited Edition, the Swiss watch brand utilises carbon fibre. This is the first time Perrelet have used carbon fibre in a public-available piece before – the only other occasion was for a special “Turbine Hope” watch which was created for the 9th edition of the Only Watch charity auction in 2021. According to the brand, carbon fibre will be arriving across an entire line of Perrelet Turbine watches soon; this Rainbow edition marks their upcoming arrival.

The case measures to 44mm in diameter and 13.82mm in thickness and features all the high-performing properties of carbon fibre including thermal insulation capacity, resistance to chemical agents and temperature changes, and extreme lightness. On top, the Perrelet Turbine Carbon Rainbow watch presents a black PVD coated stainless steel bezel and a matching case back finished in matte black PVD. There’s also a water resistant rating of 100 metres and sapphire crystal glass on both the front and back, the former opting for anti-reflective coating.

Exposed through the glass case back of the Perrelet Turbine Carbon Rainbow Limited Edition is the Perrelet P-331-MH movement. It is an in-house manufacture automatic winding movement which has been examined under Chronofiable and COSC certification to ensure high levels of accuracy and reliability. The movement also delivers a 42 hour power reserve, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and several classic decorations. These include circular graining on the main plate and the open-worked oscillating weight embellished with the Maison’s logo. Completing the watch is a black calfskin strap with a rubber lining and in the special “tactical box”, you’ll also receive an additional black rubber strap and a strap changing tool.
