Oris Divers Sixty Five 12H Calibre 400 Watch Review

For the first time, Swiss watch manufacturer Oris places their high-performance and ultra-reliable Calibre 400 movement into a non-limited Divers Sixty Five watch. Not only that, but the retro-inspired underwater instrument debuts its first 12 hour bezel. Here’s everything you need to know about the Oris Divers Sixty Five 12H Calibre 400 just unveiled at the Geneva Watch Days 2022 event…

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost two years since Oris launched their in-house Calibre 400 series. It originally debuted within a single, blue-dialled Aquis Date watch, promising high levels of anti-magnetism, an impressive 5-day (or 120 hours) power reserve and a 10 year warranty. Shortly after, legendary U.S Navy Diver Carl Brashear was honoured with his third limited edition Oris watch with a Divers Sixty Five design equipped with the Calibre 401 movement. The latter promised all the same performance as the core Calibre 400 but with the addition of a small seconds dial. Since then, we’ve seen the movement take over Oris ProPilot X watches and further additions to the Aquis collection. For the latest, Oris applies the in-house movement to its first non-limited Divers Sixty Five watch, the Oris Divers Sixty Five 12H Calibre 400.

Starting with the exterior, the Oris Divers Sixty Five 12H Calibre 400 watch opts for a 40mm wide stainless steel case which largely follows the design codes set by the rest of the Divers Sixty Five collection. The same tapering lugs, unguarded screw in pill box crown and coin-edged bezel remain, however the latter makes design history. The bi-directional rotating aluminium insert is adorned with a printed white 12 hour scale for the first time allowing you to read off a second time zone. It’s an interesting choice, swapping out a 60 minute scale on a diver’s watch, but I’m sure it’s one many will be on board with – especially since many owners of vintage-inspired dive watches (us included) don’t actually use them for diving!

Other features of the Oris Divers Sixty Five 12H Calibre 400 watch’s case include double domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment, a 100 metre water resistant rating and a screw down exhibition case back displaying the Calibre 400 movement within. The watch secures to the wrist by a choice of two straps, the first a classic three-row link stainless steel bracelet with brushed and polished finishing and a folding buckle. The second is a retro-looking black calfskin leather band with cream stitch detailing and a steel pin buckle.

The classic diver aesthetics of the Divers Sixty Five are placed centre stage of the new Oris Divers Sixty Five 12H Calibre 400 watch. The matte black surface features a nice, fine grained effect acting as a setting to rounded, baton and a single shield-shaped hour marker and broad hands for the hours and minutes. A lollipop seconds hand is also included at the centre matching with the rest of the hardware with white glow in the dark Superluminova. The monochromatic dial also displays a narrow date window at 6 o’clock.

Turning the Oris Divers Sixty Five 12H Calibre 400 watch over and you’re presented to the Calibre 400 movement within. The stats and affordability of this in-house calibre never cease to amaze; we’re guaranteed a 5 day-power reserve thanks to a twin barrel concept, high levels of anti-magnetism and an accuracy worthy of chronometer certification ( -3 to +5 seconds a day). The Oris Divers Sixty Five 12H Calibre 400 watch also carries a 10-year warranty and 10-year recommended service interval meaning if you were to purchase it now, you’d not have to worry about booking in a service of any kind until 2032…
