Introducing the SevenFriday M2/04 “Whisky” Limited Edition

It’s the 10-year anniversary of the SevenFriday watch brand and in the same way certain liquors taste better over time, the Swiss manufacturer suggests their decade lifetime has made them all the more valuable and delicious. Under this same philosophy they have also launched a new SevenFriday M2/04 watch, a limited edition of 300 pieces that arrives with an equally limited bottle of whisky.

Many luxury watch brands in today’s world are governed by a set of strict norms, but not SevenFriday. On a mission to rattle the cage, break the mould and step widely over the line, this Swiss watch manufacturer stands out rather impressively with their TV set-shaped cases, multi-layered dials and wonderfully industrial aesthetics. Founded in 2012, the SevenFriday brand has come a long way in ten years, boasting a wide number of collections powered predominately by Miyota movements and several special and limited edition designs valued by collectors. In celebration of their decade-long history, SevenFriday launches another numbered timepiece, this time the M2/04 “Whisky” Limited Edition which they describe as being a distillation of all the key ingredients that has made them such a success.

The case of the SevenFriday M2/04 “Whisky” Limited Edition maintains the profile of all those before it, opting for a rounded square shape with a diameter of 47.6mm by 47mm. The main part of the exterior is engineered from classic stainless steel which includes a polished stainless steel case back and a grooved polished bezel. The grooved detailing of the latter is infilled with black Berlac paint. The core feature of the case is the animation ring, a component which sits around the main case and below the bezel. This is beautifully engineered from bouchonné brass, evoking the colour of a fine whisky.

Beneath a layer of sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating, the SevenFriday M2/04 “Whisky” watch reveals a visually complex dial with an unusual layout for the hours and minutes. The display has seven layers in total brought to life by 14 parts including a black grooved backdrop and a brushed silver spoke-like centrepiece secured into place by three bronzed, screwed down arms. At the centre, the SevenFriday logo and an inscription reads “Aged 10 Years”, leaving an opening on the right hand side for revealing the hours and minutes on the black printed track below it.

Powering the SevenFriday M2/04 “Whisky” Limited Edition watch is the automatic winding Miyota 8215 movement with a 40 hour power reserve. The movement is kept hidden from view behind a closed case back water resistant to 30 metres. Completing the watch is a brown straight-cut suede calfskin leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching and a stainless steel pin buckle.
