Introducing the Montblanc 1858 0 Oxygen The 8000 Watch Collection

As part of their expansive Watches & Wonders 2023 showcase, Swiss watchmaker Montblanc launched an 1858 0 Oxygen The 8000 watch collection inspired by Nepalese mountaineer Nimsdai “Nims” Purja. The adventurer conquered the 14 highest peaks of the world in a record time of 6 months, without the use of supplemental oxygen. In honour of this, the Montblanc 1858 0 Oxygen The 8000 watches feature their own robust cases completely devoid of oxygen, unique laser engraved case backs and glacier-inspired dials.

There is a total of four new Montblanc 1858 0 Oxygen The 8000 watches to enjoy, one is a special boutique edition while the others are available online from official Montblanc retailers. We’ll be focusing on these three today. They include the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen The 8000 watch with a 42mm oxygen-devoid titanium case and the luxury brand’s impressive 3D worldtime complication. Then there’s the more classic Montblanc 1868 Chronograph Automatic Oxygen The 8000 watch with a smaller 41mm stainless steel case with traditional chronograph function at its centre and finally, the time-only Montblanc 1868 Automatic Date Oxygen The 8000 watch with a chronograph-free dial housed within a 41mm stainless steel case.

Each of the new Montblanc 1858 0 Oxygen The 8000 watches are completely devoid of oxygen. Why? Because for mountaineers, the absence of oxygen means you completely remove the risk of fogging, plus it helps to prevent oxidisation of the movement’s components thus prolonging its life and maintaining its precision. The dials also share a unique textured finish inspired by the environments found at the top of the world’s highest peaks. The dark grey displays are adorned with a glacier-like pattern with subtle orange accents.

The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen The 8000 watch is the more technically complicated out of the trio, boasting Montblanc’s MB 29.25 automatic winding movement with their Manufacture worldtime complication. On the textured grey dial, it allows you to read the time of the 24 hour zones from the 3D turning Northern and Southern Hemisphere globes. There’s also day and night indication, a dual time display and date. The 42mm lightweight titanium case pairs with a fluted, bi-directional rotating black ceramic bezel with a luminescent compass scale, a screw in crown for a 100 metre water resistance and a interchangeable titanium bracelet. The case back of the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen The 8000 watch is almost as spectacular as the dial itself, laser engraved with a three-dimensional image of the K2 mountain in full colour.

For the Montblanc 1868 Chronograph Automatic Oxygen The 8000 watch, the watchmaker elects their well-known automatic winding calibre MB 24.17 movement for fuelling the central hours, minutes and chronograph seconds and two subsidiary counters for the continuous seconds and 30 minutes. The counters are black and slightly grained for effortless readability against the dark grey, glacier-inspired backdrop and pair with large Arabic numerals and cathedral shaped hands with luminous coating. The 41mm stainless steel case presents the same black ceramic compass bezel, 100 metre water resistant rating and sapphire crystal glass as its Geosphere counterpart but elects a different case back engraving. This time, the Montblanc 1868 Chronograph Automatic Oxygen The 8000 watch presents Montblanc’s “Spirit of Exploration” emblem which includes the image of a compass and two crossed ice pick-axes.

Finally, the Montblanc 1868 Automatic Date Oxygen The 8000 watch takes things back to basics with a time-only display powered by their automatic calibre MB 24.17 movement. Other than its movement and time-only functionality, the specifications of this model are exactly the same as the chronograph above. It boasts a 41mm stainless steel case with a bi-directional compass bezel, a 100 metre water resistant rating, interchangeable stainless steel bracelet, dark grey textured dial with Superluminova hands and numerals, sapphire crystal glass and a “Spirit of Exploration” engraved case back.
