Hands-on with the NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik 2022 Watch Collection

For 2022, Glashutte-based watch manufacturer NOMOS relaunch their successful Ahoi Atlantik collection with a series of new dials, strap options and upgraded technology. The NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik watches continue their nautical mission, effortlessly transitioning from a day at the beach to a regular 9-5er.

Appropriately named for boating enthusiasts and lovers of the sea, the NOMOS Ahoi watch collection was first launched in 2013 and was regarded as the Glashutte brand’s first dive watch. It was the first to debut luminous hands and markers, a screw down crown, large case and a higher water resistant rating of 200 metres. It also introduced their opening NOMOS automatic calibre, the DUW 5001. Over the years, we’ve seen small details of the design evolve including different displays in grey-blue, turquoise blue and white as well as several case sizes and the option of a date complication. Again, the collection see’s some subtle changes in the new trio of 2022 NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik watches including a fresh dial colour, a metal bracelet option and two automatic movements.

Sporty-chic by definition, the cases of the new NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik watches deliver a polished, perfectly round stainless steel architecture equipped with a screw in crown at 3 o’clock and two crown guards for a water resistant rating of 200 metres. While the crown placement screams “ready for action”, the rest of the case including its slim unadorned bezel and slender height gives it an effortlessly elegant look suitable for everyday attire. There are three NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik watches to choose from, two in 40mm and a smaller 36mm version. All three feature sapphire crystal glass on both the front and back, the former coated with a layer or anti-reflective treatment.

One of the biggest changes to the new 2022 NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik watches is the new blue dial. Previous blue displays seen in the Ahoi collection have had a significantly greyer hue while this is a pure, saturated navy blue colour perfectly embodying nautical environments. The dials also feature new light, green-coloured rectangular hour markers and luminous coating on not only the hour and minute hands but on the Arabic numerals and baton markers making the display more legible in the dark and underwater than ever.  The buoy-inspired red coloured seconds hand remains and the printed numerals and NOMOS logo are kept white.

The new NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik watches are delivered on a choice of two straps. The first is an ocean-worthy woven textile strap in blue designed to be resistant to water. The second is a stainless steel sports bracelet with a folding buckle. Both are equipped with quick-release spring bars so changing the straps around is super easy.

The key difference between the three new NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik 2022 watches is their movement and the addition or lack thereof a date window. Reference 567 is the smallest of the trio with a 36mm case size, no date window and the automatic winding DUW 3001 movement at its core. This calibre features the iconic NOMOS swing system for increased accuracy and a power reserve of 43 hours. Lastly, the two 40mm models can be found under reference 557 and reference 558, the latter being the only one with a date complication at 6 o’clock. Both of these models are powered by the automatic DUW 5001 (no date) or DUW 5101 (date) in-house movements also boasting the swing system and a power reserve up to 42 hours.
