Introducing the new Gucci 25H Summer Watch Collection

Just in time for the summer, fashion house Gucci extends their line of 25H watches combining the integrated sports watch aesthetic with new bright coloured dials, diamond bezels and gold plating. Beefing it up further for the masculine wrist, the Gucci 25H Summer watch collection is promoted on the wrist British actor Idris Elba.

Despite Gucci having a history of watchmaking that spans back to 1972, it was only recently that their collections caught our eye. At last year’s Watches & Wonders event, the fashion house announced their Gucci 25H watch collection, a series of ultra-thin sports watches birthed by the brand’s creative director Alessandro Michele. The launch saw Gucci mark its entry into the premium watch market and as such, we have seen Gucci’s revenues put it among the top 25 Swiss watch brands of all time. We touched on some of the other flagship Gucci watch collections here, but since then, it’s clear the Gucci 25H watch is where the brand are putting their focus.

The original collection included a series of 40mm quartz and automatic designs as well as a rare tourbillon piece. The Gucci 25H Tourbillon watch in particular is really impressive, boasting an in-house automatic winding mechanical calibre developed by Kering. The design was available in platinum or yellow gold and presented the flying tourbillon complication at 6 o’clock. As for the regular quartz and automatic models, the same amorphous case shape was revealed offering a faceted, angular profile reminiscent of luxury sports watches like the Maurice Lacroix Aikon and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. There was also dials in gold or silver and cases in stainless steel or gold plating.

As for the new Gucci 25H Summer watches, we’re treated to the same 1970’s-inspired silhouette but with some new dial and case decorations to choose from. Our favourites are a pair of bold coloured dial references, one in ‘Barbie’ pink and another in turquoise blue. The dials are crafted from glass and adorned with a striped pattern decorated with the Interlocking G motif as a subtle nod to the House’s founder. The use of glass allows the dials to change colour in different light – it’s a really nice touch. Both these watches measure to 38mm and are engineered from stainless steel, securing to the wrist by matching streamlined bracelets.

Also defined by clean lines and contrasting finishes is a range of Gucci 25H Summer watches dressed in brilliant cut white diamonds on the bezel. These also measure in at 38mm and come in a choice of stainless steel or two-toned steel and gold. The dials are kept classic with a striped silvered backdrops set with skeletonised hands for the hours and minutes and applied indexes. They are also powered by a quartz movement and boast a water resistant rating of 30 metres and sapphire crystal glass.

We know Gucci watches aren’t for everyone, but if there’s one watch we recommend you explore it’s the 25H. Plus, if Idris Elba is on board, so are we.
