Corum Bubble X Aiiroh Limited Edition Watch Review

Corum’s most significant release during the Geneva Watch Days event last month was the Corum Bubble X Aiiroh watch, and since it made its way onto our line-up of the best Geneva Watch Days 2022 releases, we thought it only right to review the design in a little more detail. The tall, curved Bubble glass returns, now over a colourfully complex dial designed by French street artist Aiiroh.

Narbonne-born artist Aiiroh began decorating the streets with his loud and colourful work more than 20 years ago. His art is largely inspired by Pop Art and New Pop Art which is interpreted into explosive collage creations, many of which have been exhibited in more than 50 galleries worldwide. His international recognition has only grown further following his latest project which has seen him reinterpret iconic pop-art figures using posters found in the streets of top French cities. It is one of the very same that Aiiroh and Corum bring together in the new Bubble X Aiiroh Limited Edition watch. What’s more is that Aiiroh and artists Soyz Bank and Namisen have worked together on a second project with Corum to create a fabulous piece of wall art in the form of the Corum certificate of authenticity. You’ll receive this and a matching NFT with the delivery of every Corum Bubble X Aiiroh watch.

As for the watch itself, the Corum Bubble X Aiiroh Limited Edition upholds the quirky and creative architecture of the legendary Corum Bubble watch, a design which was first introduced in 2000. On its launch, the huge domed sapphire crystal glass gained a large cult-like following as it uniquely magnified and distorted the equally iconic images placed on the dial. The same effect is utilised on the Corum Bubble X Aiiroh watch but this time, Aiiroh’s famous “Black Série Rose” artwork is placed centre stage. It’s an image he has used on street posters and headlines in the past and here, he uses a decoupage-like collage effect to form the petals of the rose.

Beneath the large glass housing, the colourful dial comes to life in shades of turquoise, orange, lavender, purple, blue, red, yellow and green as the petals of the rose are created using concert, festival and political posters found on the streets in France. On top, a superimposed stylised black rose spiral motif forms the image of the flower. The stark black of the rose against the colourful rose petal collage is absolutely stunning and beneath the magnifying glass, you can admire these elements closer than usual. The black stylised rose is crafted from black aluminium which again contrasts to the hardware for the hours, minutes and seconds. All three hands are skeletonised, the hours and minutes petal-shaped and adorned in white while the open-worked lollipop seconds hand is done in red.

Like so many of Corum’s Bubble watches, the Bubble X Aiiroh Limited Edition is an imposing piece on the wrist with a diameter of 47mm and a whopping thickness of 18.5mm, the domed sapphire crystal glass being largely responsible for the latter. The case itself is engineered from stainless steel and coated with a gorgeous black PVD treatment to ensure all eyes remain fixed on the colourful dial. We’re also warranted a 100 metre water resistance and a black synthetic strap adorned with a rubber lining and closed by a black PVD treated stainless steel pin buckle.

The Corum Bubble X Aiiroh watch is powered by the mechanical automatic winding Calibre CO 082 which takes its base from the Soprod A10 movement. The 25-jewelled movement ensures a power reserve of 42 hours and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and when not on the wrist, you can admire the Swiss made mechanism through the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. The Corum Bubble X Aiiroh watch is limited to just 88 pieces worldwide.
