Bremont Audley Watch Review

Forming part of the British watch brand’s recent H1 Generation 1 collection, the Bremont Audley is a handsome contemporary dress watch, one that is arguably their most elegant offering yet. The design comes in a choice of stainless steel or 18 carat gold and is driven by Bremont’s ENG300 movement series.

At number 29 on South Audley Street in London is Bremont’s flagship Mayfair boutique, a place we’ve visited on several occasions over the past decade. It was built by Bremont co-founders Nick and Giles English as more than just a place to sell their watches, but a place where Bremont fans could share their passions for luxury timepieces and gain a greater understanding about what drives the British manufacturer. Honouring the store and the street name it resides on is the new Bremont Audley watch collection, a duo of gorgeous dress watches with an effortlessly understated aesthetic in steel or gold. The pair join the likes of the Bremont Supernova and the Bremont Fury which were also recently unveiled as part of the brand’s new H1 Generation collection, a series of watches that are rigorously tested using Bremont’s H1 Timing Standard.

While the Bremont Supernova stands out for its integrated sports aesthetic and the Bremont Fury marks the brand’s heritage in aviation as a pilot’s watch, the Bremont Audley watches are easily the most stylish and sophisticated from the group with the exterior of a classic dress watch. The beauty of the design comes from its simplicity, from the curved lugs, the stepped bezel and the knurled crown at 3 o’clock topped by the enamelled Bremont logo. As mentioned, you get a choice from stainless steel or 18 carat gold, both highly polished and water resistant to 100 metres.

Like all the watches in the Bremont H1 Generation collection, the Bremont Audley measures to 40mm in diameter and is engineered using the brand’s famous Trip-Tick case construction. In the middle, a PVD treated case barrel offers exceptional scratch resistance and behind, a stainless steel or 18 carat rose gold case back surrounds integrated flat exhibition sapphire crystal. The same sapphire crystal glass is used on the front end for protecting the dial, domed and joined by a layer of anti-reflective coating. At only 12.9mm tall, the Bremont Audley watches sit remarkably flush on the wrist and secure by crocodile embossed leather straps in chocolate brown. The straps are joined by pin buckles in polished stainless steel or solid rose gold depending on the case metal chosen.

At the centre, the Bremont Audley watches elect a crisp silver sunray metal dial which almost shimmers with its own iridescence, matching the highly polished nature of the cases. The crisp backdrop is then punctuated by fluted and faceted indexes and sharp tapering hands in nickel or rose gold plating. For the seconds, a bold and contrasting blue hand is nominated which matches with the hand used on the power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock. There’s also a recessed date window at 3 o’clock and a sloped minutes track in silver white.

Powering the hours, minutes, seconds and date complication and upholding the 65-hour power reserve displayed on the indicator is the ENG365 in-house automatic winding calibre. As part of the brand’s ENG300 manufacture movement series, the movement comes with an extended warranty of 5 years upon registration and has been tested using Bremont’s H1 Timing Standard. This set of tests is detailed greater in our review here, but is comparable to the ISO3159:2009 Chronometer test. It also involves placing the movement in a concept watch case which is sent on live ejection launches with brand partner and leading ejection seat manufacturer Martin-Baker. The decoration of the Bremont Audley watch’s movement is not neglected, offering 22 jewels, rhodium-plated bridges with a gold-plated automatic bridge and a gorgeous rhodium-plated solid tungsten rotor, engraved with the Bremont logo.
