BALL Watch Company Engineer III Outlier Limited Edition Review

We all look for different things in a watch and its typically our own lifestyles that dictate the genre of timepiece we need. While globetrotters will be keen for the likes a GMT complication and sea-dwellers for a water resistant case, serious adventurous will want all this and more. Masters of durable outdoor watches, BALL Watch Company have just launched their latest edition of their popular Engineer III watch and it might just be their most adventure-driven timepiece yet. Boasting a GMT-equipped COSC-certified movement, an impressively robust steel case, anti-magnetic protection and micro gas tube technology, here’s the new BALL Watch Company Engineer III Outlier Limited Edition

Designed to accompany you on even the most advanced adventures, the new BALL Watch Company Engineer III Outlier Limited Edition offers a case engineered from 904L stainless steel. Compared to 316L stainless steel, which you’ve likely seen referenced against most of the luxury steel watches on the market, 904L stainless steel boasts additional amounts of chromium, molybdenum, nickel and copper making it significantly more resistant to corrosion, rust and acids. It is also extremely hard so will deflect even the harshest knocks. From the images and even the description, the BALL Engineer III Outlier watch appears to be a beefy outdoor tool, and while the latter is true, it’s dimensions actually wear incredibly compact on the wrist.

The BALL Engineer III Outlier Limited Edition measures in at only 40mm in diameter, a reasonable size for a robust watch like this. In addition, its height is even more impressive with a thickness of 11.8mm. The height includes the top heavy bi-directional rotating stainless steel bezel adorned the 24 hour scale for reading off a second time zone. The scale is two-toned in black and white for identifying day and night hours and features a luminous orange-outlines triangle marker at the 12 o’clock position. The case of the BALL Watch Company Engineer III Outlier continues to assure its robustness with a screw in crown and crown guards, domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass and a screw down case back water resistant to 200 metres.

As with all BALL watches, the BALL Watch Company Engineer III Outlier Limited Edition lights up spectacularly in the dark thanks to the brand’s patented micro gas tube technology. These incredible tubes of tritium gas glow without any external power for up to 25 years; their brightness and colour is unmatched in the luxury watch world. The BALL Engineer III Outlier watch opts for lume in green and yellow across the hands and hour markers. To match, green Superluminova is used on the 24 hour indication on the bezel. The dial also maintains instant legibility with the date window placed beneath magnified glass.

Yet another holy grail for intrepid explorers, the BALL Engineer III Outlier Limited Edition watch is equipped with a COSC certified automatic winding movement. The BALL Manufacture GMT Caliber RRM7337-C delivers hours, minutes, seconds, date and GMT complication, the latter completely unaffecting the rest of the display for uninterrupted precision. The 12-hour hand jumps in one-hour increments and at the same time, the date wheel moves in perfect synchronization so you always have the correct date of your local time zone. From within, the movement is protected by a mu-metal shield giving you 1000 Gauss anti-magnetic protection for additional reliability and precision.

Completing the BALL Watch Company Engineer III Outlier watch is a range of straps including a solid 904L stainless steel bracelet, a black textured rubber strap and a quirky blue and white striped NATO strap. The design is limited to 1,000 pieces and is available to pre-order as of September 2022 for delivery in March 2023. It retails at £2,860.
