In line with the non-stop trend of colourful watch dials, TAG Heuer have launched a trio of sporty, bold and playful chronographs in green, yellow and red. The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Racing Colour watches are the perfect embodiment of the Swiss watch manufacturer’s own appetite for speed, performance and fearless design.
Green, yellow and red are three signature colours of the racing world. Not only are they the very colours we see on the road every day illuminating signs, road markings and traffic lights, but they adorn some of the world’s most legendary race cars. At the beginning of motorsport history, when the first organized events took place in the early 1900’s, cars weren’t decorated in commercial sponsorship liveries like they are today. Instead, they were painted in standardised racing colours which indicated the nation of origin of the car and/or driver. Some of the most famous examples of this are British Racing Green for the United Kingdom, Rosso Corsa for Italy and Yellow for Belgium. These colours ruled the track until the 1970’s and now in celebration of them, TAG Heuer places them at the centre of their own motorsport-inspired collection.
The cases of the three new colourful TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph watches follow suit to previous quartz chronographs in the collection with a 43mm fine-brushed stainless steel housing topped by a strong black PVD fixed bezel. The bezel is perfectly suited to the racing world with a tachymeter scale adorned around its circumference so you can calculate speed over a fixed distance, The cases also feature matching black PVD push buttons and a non-screw locked crown at 3 o’clock. This alongside the screw down case back, which features the signature chequered flag motif, helps assist in a water resistant rating of 200 metres.
It is beneath sapphire crystal glass where the designs of the new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Racing Colour watches get interesting. The dials are coloured in bright red, yellow or green with sunray brushed treatment for a gorgeous glossy finish. In contrast, three azurage chronograph subsidiary counters are decorated in black matching with the minutes track. The baton shaped indexes and large 12 o’clock numeral are nicely outlined in silver and feature white Superluminova for night-time readability. The central hour and minute hands offer the same glow in the dark inserts and at 4 o’clock, you’ll spot an angled date window.
Another nice touch on the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Racing Colour watches is that each dial hosts its own range of subtle details depending on the display colour you choose. For example, the green edition under reference CAZ101AP.FT8056 elects indexes and hands in black with white Superluminova, a lacquered white chronograph seconds and red circled counters. Meanwhile, the yellow model under reference CAZ101AM.FT8054 presents the chronograph seconds with a bright red lacquered hand. Lastly, the red edition under model number CAZ101AN.FT8055 offers the chronograph seconds hand in white to match with the outline of the white chronograph subsidiary dials.
Completing the full-coloured look, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph watches are equipped with a textured rubber strap tinted in the same vivid hue as its dial. The straps are closed by a fine brushed stainless steel pin buckle signed off by the legendary TAG Heuer logo. Lastly, the TAG Heuer chronographs are powered by a Swiss quartz movement which delivers central hands for the hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, a small seconds counter at 3 o’clock, 1/10th second chronograph counter at 6 o’clock and a 30 minutes counter at 9 o’clock.
