Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf UK Exclusive Watch Review

Just recently Breitling have been spoiling us Brits to some special UK-exclusive timepieces. In June, they launched a Superocean 44 Special Edition reserved solely for those of us in the UK with a  love of dive specifications. It boasted an impressive 1,000m water resistant case, a blue ceramic bezel and a COSC certified movement. Now appointing their famously robust Avenger model as its figurehead, we’re welcomed to a new Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 watch limited to just 350 pieces.

The Case

Those already familiar with the Breitling Avenger watch will be aware of its impressive reputation in both the cockpit and underwater. The new Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf UK Exclusive watch is no different, offering an extremely robust and shock resistant architecture worthy of the wrists of any adventurer. It’s stainless steel case measures in at an imposing 45mm wide and 18.3mm high. Its arresting size feels reliably solid on the wrist and is certainly excused when you learn that we’re guaranteed a whopping 3,000 metre water resistance.

On top of the Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf watch, a matching unidirectional rotating bezel is also delivered in stainless steel. Since the Avenger is designed with both pilots and divers in mind, the bezel features large ratcheting on its circumference for easy manipulation even while wearing thick gloves. There’s also an engraved 60 minute scale with large stencil-like Arabic numerals for each 15 minute point and a luminous round dot at the 12 o’clock position. Completing the case is a screw in crown and a screw down satin-finished titanium case back engraved with its limited edition status out of 350 pieces.

The Dial

Beneath convex sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating on both sides, the Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf UK Exclusive watch elects a classic black dial dressed in plenty of luminous hardware. It includes Superluminova sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes, a red needle-tipped luminous seconds hand and matching glow in the dark baton indexes. Other than the contrasting red of the seconds hand, the rest of the hardware is finished to an anthracite-coloured coating which covertly blends into the black dial. The dial also presents an upside-down triangle marker at 12 o’clock for easy reference, a greyed Breitling logo just beneath it and a square white-outlined date complication at 3 o’clock.

The Movement

Driving the Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf watch is the familiar Breitling 17 automatic winding calibre, the very same which fuels the other time-and-date models in the Avenger collection. We’re promised to 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, a 38 hour power reserve and, as with every Breitling watch, the in-house movement is COSC certified for its impressive levels of accuracy.

The Strap

The Breitling Avenger Automatic 45 Seawolf UK Exclusive watch comes on a choice of two straps. The first is our personal favourite, a robust three-row link stainless steel bracelet with brushed finishing and a folding buckle. The second is more suited to those hoping to take their Avenger watch into the water, engineered from black rubber and closed by a choice of either a classic stainless steel pin buckle or a deployment clasp.
