NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold Watch Review

The NOMOS Tangente was one of the four watches first launched by NOMOS Glashutte when the brand was founded in 1992 and ever since, it has remained one of their most emblematic designs. Defined by its ultra-thin, flat case and minimalistic, Bauhaus-inspired dial, the NOMOS Tangente watch has barely charged over the last three decades, only really seeing different dial colours and case size options added. With that in mind, the Glashutte-based manufacturer adds yet another dial colour to its vast portfolio with the addition of the NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch.

The new NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch is much like the Tangente Neomatik Platinum Gray watch launched last year. There’s two sizes to choose from as well as the option of closed or sapphire crystal case back. The dial is also beautifully adorned with a brand new galvanised dial. While the aforementioned Platinum Grey models boasted a gorgeous muted grey display with a shimmering, matte texture, the NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch elects a new deep, navy blue dial with a deeper, royal hue and a more textured finish compared to previous blue-dialled NOMOS watches.

You would be mistaken for thinking the new NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch was named “Blue Gold” for its dial colour and case material. In fact, the reference to gold has nothing to do with the case, since this is entirely crafted from stainless steel. Instead, the name denotes the special manufacturing technique used create the exact shade of blue on the dial. The dial begins as plain brass surface embossed with a snailed small seconds counter at 6 o’clock. Then the dial is given a sunray brushed texture and is gold-plated, giving the base a warm hue before the blue colour is applied by the galvanisation process.

The “Blue Gold” display is then decorated with all the familiar features of the NOMOS Tangente watch including a combination of printed Arabic numerals and stick indexes, a white printed minutes track, and three super slender rhodium-plated hands for the hours, minutes and seconds. The NOMOS logo is included up top at the 12 o’clock  position and lettering denoting its German manufacture reads at the bottom. The dial is almost entirely two-toned in blue and white other than the typeface for the neomatik logo which is rendered in gold.

As previously mentioned, the NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch is available in two sizes, 35mm or 38.5mm. The stainless steel cases are perfectly round and incredibly thin at only 7mm tall with polished finishing, angled lugs and flat sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment. There’s a small and flat non-screw locked crown positioned at 3 o’clock and you can choose to have your NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch with a closed case back or a sapphire crystal exhibition back. The 35mm NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch has a water resistant rating of 30 metres while the larger 38.5mm model increases that to 50 metres.

Powering the NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch is the in-house calibre DUW 3001, otherwise nicknamed the NOMOS neomatik movement. The movement is ultra-thin, hence the slender case, yet still impresses with a 43 hour power reserve and a 21,600vph frequency. The movement also incorporates an in-house hairspring, NOMOS’ swing system and promises an accuracy close to chronometer level. For those that choose the NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch with a sapphire crystal back, you can enjoy classic Glashutte decoration on the movement including Glashutte ribbing and blued screws. All four variations of the watch are completed on a black Horween genuine shell cordovan strap with a stainless steel pin buckle.
