NOMOS Club Automatic 175 Years Limited Edition Watch Review

While Switzerland may be the traditional heartland of luxury watchmaking, Glashütte remains a key epicentre of fine watch design and is home to some of the world’s most notable watch names. One of these brands is NOMOS Glashutte, a fairly young but well-established luxury watch manufacturer who has taken to celebrating 175 years of the small German village with several limited edition runs. Late last year, they revealed two 175 Anniversary Ludwig and Lambda collections and now, for 2021, they have released the third edition in the series: the NOMOS Club Automatic 175 Years Limited Edition.

Many luxury watch brands have a tendency to celebrate special anniversaries with overly expensive models engineered from fancy materials or rare complications. NOMOS Glashutte on the other hand has done quite the opposite in celebration of the 175 year anniversary of the watchmaking region of Glashütte. Instead, the German watch manufacturer has released three new faces from their entry-level Club collection dressed in a choice of onyx, navy and olive green. First launched in 2007, the NOMOS Club delivers a selection stylish, contemporary and affordable wristwatches perfectly designed for those just entering the luxury watch world. Their pleasantly reasonable price point does not take away from their remarkable craftsmanship however, with all NOMOS Club watches still underlined by their own in-house mechanical movement.

The new NOMOS Club Automatic 175 Years Limited Edition watches are no different, home to the DUW 5001 automatic winding movement. This in-house calibre was the brand’s first automatic movement released back in 2005 and features their iconic Swing System technology which allows them to adjust the watches according to chronometer standards. The DUW 5001 also brings 26 jewels, a 43 hour power reserve and stunning Glashütte ribbing and perlage decoration viewable through the sapphire crystal case back.

For us, the one element that sets these NOMOS Club Automatic 175 Years watches apart from any other is the use of colour on the dial. Dressed in a choice of onyx black, navy blue, or olive green, the dials are honestly stunning with small pops of gold to accentuate the give minute marks and cool white hands and indexes coated in glow in the dark Superluminova. The navy model is paired with a textile strap of the same colour while a light grey textile strap joins the olive green dial. The onyx grey NOMOS Club Automatic stands out with NOMO’s famous sport bracelet made from 145 individual parts and a deployment buckle for optimal comfort and style.

All three NOMOS Club Automatic 175 Years watches are delivered in durable stainless steel and measure to 40mm across. Unlike other Club models that are either 37mm or 41.5mm, the limited editions deliver a new profile suited to almost every wrist size. The cases also measure to only 9.7mm in height and are water resistant to 200 metres making it a possible dive watch for anyone interested. The case is engineered from only two components allowing seamless integration between the bezel, case and sloping lugs while scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass provides additional robustness and optimal legibility of the hours, minutes and small seconds beneath.

Limited to only 175 pieces per dial colour, the NOMOS Club Automatic 175 Years Limited Editions are available to order now on the Jura Watches website. The olive green and navy blue models on textile straps retail at £1,960 while the onyx variant on a stainless steel bracelet retails at £2,240.
