That is until now, as today we finally get up, close and personal with this vintage-inspired, turquoise-dialled beauty.
The hype around Tiffany-coloured watch dials is not going away any time soon and if you somehow missed the hysteria surrounding the original Tiffany watch, the Patek Nautilus 5711, then here’s the low down. At the end of December 2021, Patek Phillippe commemorated their longstanding partnership with Tiffany & Co with the launch of a gorgeous Tiffany dial watch named the Nautilus 5711/1A-018. It became quicky apparent that the 170 limited edition pieces were not going to land with any members of the general public, with VIPS and celebrities getting first dibs. Celebs like Jay-Z, Lebron James, and Leonardo DiCaprio were some of the same. In fact, only one “regular” member of the public of the public owns one and they brought it at auction for $6.5 million. Following the hype of the original Patek, watch collectors everywhere have been trying to find an alternative with many fixing their eyes on one particular aquamarine-dialled DOXA Sub 200.
DOXA actually boasts several “Tiffany” dial watches in their vast portfolio of diving instruments, all maintaining the Swiss watch brand’s legacy for underwater durability and legibility. Of all of DOXA’s models, the Sub 200 is widely regarded as their flagship model, mainly for its entry-level price point but also for the beautifully executed vintage-inspired aesthetic. The DOXA Sub 200 Aquamarine watch really is a thing of beauty. It takes a lot of inspiration from the original DOXA Sub watch launched during the 1960’s which became the first professional diver’s watch made available to the general public, as well as the first to feature a rotating bezel.
The DOXA Sub 200 Aquamarine “Tiffany Dial” watch may be “entry-level”, but it still packs a real punch with its list of specifications. It’s 42mm stainless steel case is fully equipped to take on the ocean with a 200 metre water resistance and a black filled unidirectional rotating bezel. The bezel is ratcheted for easy grip and adorned with a 60 minute diving scale for measuring elapsed dive times. The scale is coloured in the same shade of Tiffany blue as the dial, a shade DOXA simply calls “Aquamarine”. The beautiful turquoise dial reveals white baton-shaped markers and three black hands for the hours, minutes and seconds. All of this hardware, even the square-shaped lollipop tip of the seconds hand, is filled with glow in the dark Superluminova. The “Tiffany dial” is completed by a date window at 3 o’clock.
The DOXA Sub 200 Aquamarine watch protects its centrepiece using domed plexiglass lens with scratch resistant treatment while the case back is screwed down, helping to ensure that 200 metre water resistant rating. Behind the case back, the Swiss made automatic winding movement works hard to power the hours, minutes, seconds and date function and provide a power reserve of 38 hours. We’re also promised a total of 26 jewels and a frequency of 28,800vph. The DOXA Sub 200 Aquamarine “Tiffany Dial” watch is completed by a choice of two straps, the first is a retro beads-of-rice stainless steel bracelet and the second is a more modern, turquoise-coloured FKM rubber band.
