For their Geneva Watch Days 2022 showcase, Maurice Lacroix took a step back from their usual star-of-the-show, the Aikon, and focused entirely on their range of Pontos watches. Alongside a new series of Pontos S Chronographs and a permanent selection of Pontos Day-Date watches, the Swiss watch manufacturer unveiled a special Pontos Day-Date Khaki Limited Edition of only 1,000 pieces.
We’ve always said the Maurice Lacroix Pontos watch collection deserves more credit. While their popular Aikon line offers sporty and masculine-looking designs, the Pontos series speaks to those with a penchant for refined and elegant appearances. There’s a surprising number of women’s and men’s dress watches to choose from, all capturing the essence of traditional Swiss watch manufacture with a variety of complications at their centre. One of the best-selling complications on the Pontos watch is their Day-Date which nicely showcases the day in a curved aperture at 12 o’clock and the date below it at 6 o’clock. This very layout is utilised in the brand’s latest limited edition release but amongst a bold black and khaki green palette.
The new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day-Date Khaki Limited Edition instantly stands out from the rest of its classic steel counterparts with a trendy matte black DLC coated stainless steel case. The finish is really nice and helps bring down the 41mm diameter and 11mm height on the wrist, making it just as suited to the arms of women as men. The case features the familiar stepped lugs, fluted crown at 3 o’clock and tapered crown guards and on top, a layer of sapphire crystal glass ensures scratch resistance and easy legibility of the dial. Unconventional for a dress watch like this, the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day-Date Khaki Limited Edition is also water resistant to 100 metres.
The dial of the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day-Date Khaki watch acknowledges its usual setup but offers a new range of colours and finishes to honour its urban audience. The majority of the backdrop is dressed in a sunbrushed deep khaki green giving it a subtle glossy finish. At noon, the well-known arched day of the week window is adorned in black while the square-shaped date aperture at the opposite end does the same. Both are placed within recessed areas contrasting to the rest of the dial for its sandblasted finishing. In line with the day and date complications is a matching recessed minutes track in black and white. The rest of the dial is characterised by black hardware including black-plated hour markers, a red-tipped seconds hand and black-plated hour and minute hands adorned with white Superluminova inserts.
Housed within the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day-Date Khaki Limited Edition watch is the Calibre ML143 automatic winding movement. Alongside the hours, minutes, seconds, day and date functions, the Swiss made calibre promises a frequency of 28,800vph, a power reserve of 38 hours and a total of 26 jewels. You can enjoy the traditional Swiss decoration on the movement through the sapphire crystal case back including rhodium-plating, circular graining and a Côtes de Genève striped rotor.
Completing the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day-Date Khaki watch is a dark green nylon strap with matching khaki green stitching and a black DLC coated steel butterfly clasp. The strap features the brand’s innovative easy strap exchange system so you can easily swap this band out for another of your choosing.
