Bremont MB Savanna Special Edition Watch Review

British watch manufacturer Bremont continue their extensive partnership with British aviation company Martin Baker with the release of the new Bremont MB Savanna watch. For the first time, the brand’s iconic MB design is given a lightweight titanium treatment with a tactical matte effect and a savannah metal dial suitably adorned with sand-coloured Superluminova.

If you’ve heard of Bremont then we’re almost certain you’ve come across their vast collection of Martin Baker watches, but just in case, here’s a quick run-down of the company’s history so far. Martin Baker was founded back in 1937 beginning their journey as an aircraft manufacturer before being approached by the Ministry of Aircraft Production to investigate ejection systems, a device that would enable pilots to bail out safely from high-speed fighter aircrafts. Over the next eight years, Martin Baker would become the number one choice for over 88 air forces around the world with their innovative ejection seats fitted to over 80 aircraft types. It is believed that in total Martin-Baker has saved 7,650 aircrew lives for more than 93 Air Forces.

In 2009, fellow British brand Bremont wanted to celebrate the best of English engineering and design and collaborated with Martin Baker for the first time to reveal the Bremont Martin Baker watch collection. For well over a decade, the collection has been home to a generation of pilots watches that endure the same extensive testing schedule as Martin Baker ejection seats. From shock to vibration, temperature and salt fog tests, very few other luxury watches have been subjected to such levels of testing. There are several Bremont Martin Baker watches already available to explore including GMT variations and a MBII model entirely customisable with up to1,000 different design variations to choose from. For 2021, the collaboration continues with the introduction of the new Bremont MB Savanna Special Edition.

The MB Savanna is an eye-catching piece of military candy and a fitting tribute to arguably the most successful pilot’s watch in the market used extensively by real military squadrons. Following the success of our MB collaboration we wanted to create a more lightweight model and put it through the full spectrum of MB testing to coincide with the development of the new MB seat programme – ensuring the next generation of the Bremont MB is more robust than ever. Along with the extensive testing done in the UK, we’re proud to say all case finishing and manufacture has also been done in the UK.” – Bremont Co-Founder, Nick English.

For the first time, Bremont delivers their iconic Martin Baker design in Grade 5 titanium. The 43 millimetre case of the Bremont MB Savanna watch completes its titanium profile with a military-inspired matt finish and a protective tactical coating. Usual to the brand, the case is engineered using their Trip-Tick case construction and features a knurled aluminium barrel this time dressed in anthracite. From within the case, their patented inner bi-directional Roto-Click bezel displays a 60 minute scale operated by the crown at 4 o’clock.

The mono-colour palette of the case and barrel continues through to the dial of the Bremont MB Savanna Special Edition watch. Inspired by the harsh Savanna environment and military camouflage colours, the muted grey dial promises exceptional legibility helped by the sand-coloured Grade X1 Superluminova coated indexes and hands and scratch resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment housed above. Characteristic of all Bremont MB watches, the MB Savanna’s dial is also home to a seconds hand adorned with a yellow and black loop, a direct reference to Martin Baker’s ejection pull handles.

Fuelling the Bremont Martin Baker Savanna watch is the BE-36AE automatic winding calibre which has been COSC certified and protected by a protective patented anti-shock movement mount. The movement boasts a frequency of 28,800vph, a power reserve of 38 hours and 26 jewels, some of which are put on display through the exhibition case back. The screw down sapphire glass back also promises a water resistance of 100 metres and reveals the Bremont decorated skeletonised rotor accented by stepped windows.
