It was unveiled earlier this year that TAG Heuer are partnering up with British car manufacturer Aston Martin and with this has come the release of two stunning special edition TAG Heuer Aston Martin watches. Most famously known for their supercars driven by James Bond, Aston Martin are motivated by values similar to TAG Heuer’s own: power, elegance and luxury. With this in mind, TAG Heuer have beautifully combined two of their most popular models with stunning and intricate design elements inspired by the aesthetics of Aston Martin cars.
Let’s start off with the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Formula 1 Edition watch (CAZ101P.FC8245). This humbly priced quartz chronograph retails at only £1,350 and boasts a striking black and lime accented design. The stainless steel case measures to 43mm in diameter and is paired with a black aluminium notched bezel with a grey tachymeter scale decorated with ‘Aston Martin Racing’ lettering. With a water resistance of 200 metres, the case of the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Formula 1 Edition watch is also equipped with a screw down case back and flat sapphire crystal glass.
The centrepiece dial of the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Formula 1 watch is unmissable with its grey and lime green touches that contrast incredibly against the black backdrop. The Aston Martin winged logo can be found in green at 6 o clock while the TAG Heuer logo is kept understated in grey at 12 o clock. The indices of the chronograph counters, the central chronograph seconds hand and the stitching of the black leather strap are also coloured in bold lime green colour.
Powering the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Formula 1 watch is a quartz chronograph movement which equips the timepiece with hour and minute hands, a central chronograph seconds hand, a date window at 4 o clock and three sub dials. The sub dials include a running seconds at 3 o clock, a 1/10th-second chrono counter at 6 o clock and a 30 minute totalizer at 9 o clock. Hiding the quartz movement is a solid case back that has been engraved with a special edition Aston Martin Racing decoration.
The second release is the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Carrera 01 watch (CAR2A1AB.FT6163), the pricier of the two retailing at £5,250. The price jump is certainly compensated for by the impressive Caliber Heuer 01 automatic movement which is elegantly displayed through a honeycomb inspired dial influenced by the same pattern found on the grille of an Aston Martin Vantage. The automatic chronograph movement also boasts an impressive 50-hour power reserve and is fitted with a column-wheel stop watch function.
Set on the black skeletonised dial are large Superluminova coated indices, hour and minute hands, a red tipped central chronograph seconds hand, a date window at 4 o clock and three sub dials. The sub dials include a 30 minute counter at 12 o clock, a 12 hour counter at 6 o clock and a seconds counter complimented by the Aston Martin logo at 9 o clock.
The 45mm case of the TAG Heuer Aston Martin Carrera 01 watch is crafted from stainless steel and has been decorated with smooth lines across the side like that found on a race track. The large chronograph pushers have also been neatly designed to look like pistons found in a car engine while the sleek lugs are reminiscent of the contours of a supercar. The smooth tachymeter bezel is crafted from black ceramic and just like the Formula 1 is decorated with Aston Martin lettering.
The partnership between TAG Heuer and Aston Martin has started off beautifully, providing two watches that will please almost everybody. While the Formula 1 model offers a more modest and sporty design, the Carrera 01 boasts an unmissable skeletonised finish with a high-end automatic calibre.
