Oris Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition Watch Review

This week Oris has announced that they are working alongside the Carl Brashear Foundation once again and with it have unveiled the new Oris Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition watch. It is impossible to describe how quickly the original Carl Brashear watch sold out and we highly anticipate this exquisite bronze timepiece to do the same.

Both models remember the extraordinary life of Carl Brashear, the U.S Navy’s first African American master diver. He had both a traumatic and fascinating life, one filled with severe hostility, racism and a prosthetic leg and yet, throughout it all it was his passion and determination for diving that allowed him to return to full active duty as a diver in the U.S Navy. You can read more about the incredible life of Carl Brashear here.

The first Oris Carl Brashear edition was kept simple with just hour, minute and seconds hands and a small date window at 6 o clock. This time round the Swiss watch manufacturer have gone all out and included stunning chronograph function displayed on the unmissable sea blue dial. The Oris Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition watch is also designed from the brand’s already highly successful Sixty-Five Divers model with its retro-styled hands and indices coated in Superluminova.

It is impossible to deny that what makes the Oris Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition watch so unique is its extraordinary 43mm bronze case. This is only the second time Oris have used bronze on one of its watches with the first being the original Carl Brashear timepiece. The beauty of the bronze case, bezel and crown is that it will age and change colour over time. When exposed to moisture in the air and pH levels in perspiration, the bronze will develop a natural patina. This means there will be 2,000 limited edition pieces each with its own unique colour changing case bespoke to its wearer.

The new chronograph function is powered by the Oris 771 automatic calibre, a two-counter chronograph movement with an impressive power reserve of 48 hours. Oris decided that the chronograph perfectly represented the many times Carl Brashear was knocked back in his life and the many more times he got back up again. The Oris Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition watch is full of gorgeous finishing touches including a vintage brown leather strap and a stainless-steel case back engraved with a diver’s helmet and Carl Brashear’s famous mantra: “It’s not a sin to get knocked down, it’s a sin to stay down.”

If the new Oris Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition watch is something you are interested in, then we cannot urge you enough to place an order for one straight away! This stunning, limited edition model will only follow its counterpart and sell out quickly. Although the model isn’t released until May this year, you can guarantee yourself one by placing a pre-order here.
