Bell & Ross BR-X1 Military Limited Edition Watch Review

Always one for showing off their technical prowess, Bell and Ross have released an incredible new addition to their Experimental Collection; the Bell & Ross BR-X1 Military Limited Edition watch.  Inspired by the gauges and instruments found in the cockpits of military aircrafts, this stunning new edition is limited to 250 pieces and boasts a mesmerising skeletonised dial, a chronograph movement and a design filled with adventurous military inspired details.

The Bell and Ross BR-X1 watch collection has always been something that has excited us here at Horologii. It seems to be the brand’s platform for stepping outside the box and experimenting with skeletonised elements and new materials. We were over the moon with the release of the Bell & Ross BR-X1 Military Limited Edition watch, not only for its use of light-weight titanium but for its military inspired design which is just the masculine and adventurous aesthetic we have been waiting for.

The widely recognisable square case is equipped beautifully on the BR-X1 Military, measuring to 45mm in diameter and crafted from khaki coloured high-resistance titanium. Boasting a water resistance of 100 metres – an agreeable level for a sports chronograph, the case is also kitted out with black ceramic and rubber inserts as well as ‘rocker’ push buttons for use of the chronograph functions. To compliment the rest of the timepiece’s military aesthetic, the case back of the Bell & Ross BR-X1 Military Limited Edition watch is handsomely detailed with tinted sapphire crystal glass providing a distorted view of the automatic movement inside.

Just like any BR-X1 watch, the skeletonised dial is the centrepiece of the design giving a striking view of the intricate components displayed inside. Continuing with the military theme, the metal applique hour markers and hands are coated in Superluminova while the Bell and Ross logo, model name and several other accents are decorated in a luminous green colour. The khaki green foundation contrasts boldly against the matte black skeletonised elements for a masculine finish and we particularly love how the 9 o’clock sub-dial is neatly shaped like an aircraft turbine. The only element that seems out of place is the bright white date box at 6 o’clock, something they should have possibly blended out into the rest of design for consistency.

The movement used within the Bell & Ross BR-X1 Military Limited Edition watch is the BR-CAL.313 automatic calibre based on the ETA 2894-2. It comes equipped with an ‘X’ shaped upper bridge, 56 jewels and promises a frequency of 28,800 vph. This impressive Swiss made movement also arms the timepiece with hour and minute function, a small seconds dial at 3 o’clock, a date window at 6’o clock, central chronograph seconds, a 30 minute timer at 9 o’clock and a power reserve of 42 hours. The military aesthetic continues into the strap crafted from perforated black rubber and finished with a black PVD coated stainless steel buckle.

Retailing at £16,900, the Bell & Ross BR-X1 Military Limited Edition watch might be out of some people’s price range but for an incredible Swiss automatic movement and bold, military inspired design, we can safely say it’s worth it.
