Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD Limited Edition Watch Review

Doing what they do best, Bell & Ross take legibility to a whole new level with their latest high-performance military inspired timepiece: the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD Limited Edition. Its name and design tributes the Heads Up Display found in cars and fighter jets which provides all information that are essential to fulfil a mission, in the pilot’s visual field. Limited to 999 pieces and retailing at £3,200, the avant-garde timepiece is another exceptional release from Bell & Ross embodying the spirit of their history and instrument watches.

HUDs or Heads Up Displays were first drafted at the height of World War II as a solution for pilots struggling to locate their targets in hostile skies. This innovation developed overtime into a technology still used within aviation today, which involves a glass panel placed in the pilot’s line of sight and displays all the vital information the pilot requires for their mission including altitude, speed, flight vector path, without them having to take their hands off the controls or their eyes away from the sky. The design of the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD Limited Edition takes inspiration from this very technology, although ironically will make you want to look down at your wrist rather than upwards at the sky!

The innovative display of the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD is uniquely arranged in tiers, similarly to how last year’s BR 03-92 Bi-Compass release was, telling the time through hands and a rotating disc. But it’s show-stopping individuality comes from its green-tined sapphire crystal glass which gives the design an almost digital, futuristic aesthetic. The effect is a result from the underside of the glass being treated with a green pigment coating while all the indicators beneath it are decorated with green Superluminova C3. This combination of elements emphasises the ultra-legibility of the dial and beautifully reproduces the digital green display of the Heads Up Display and its fluorescent brightness.

The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD Limited Edition continues to tribute the world of aviation with its square-shaped 42mm matte black ceramic case inspired by cockpit dashboards. The case is paired with two strap options, a black rubber and an ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric strap both fitted with a black PVD coated stainless steel pin buckle. Housed within is the BR-CAL.302 automatic mechanical movement, based on the Sellita SW300-1, which provides central hands for hours, minutes and seconds and a subtle rounded date window at 4.30H. The 25 jewelled Swiss made calibre also promises a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 38 hours.

Due to everything going on in the world at the moment, the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD Limited Edition watch is expected to be released later on in June, but thankfully with retailers like Jura Watches offering a pre-order service on exclusive models like this, you don’t have to wait to order. You can pre-order your own Bell & Ross BR 03-92 HUD watch on the Jura Watches website here, limited to 999 pieces and retailing at £3,200.
