Baume et Mercier are no strangers to limited edition timepieces with their previously popular Shelby Cobra watches being a huge hit with automobile enthusiasts. Continuing to solidify their presence in the mechanical sport universe, the Swiss watch manufacturer has now partnered up with Indian Motorcycle and along with it have released the much anticipated Baume et Mercier Clifton Club Burt Munro Tribute watch.
This exquisite one-of-a-kind timepiece pays tribute to the legend Burt Munro and the icon that is the Indian Motorcycle Company. In particular, the Baume et Mercier Clifton Club Burt Munro Tribute watch celebrates the 50th anniversary since Burt Munro set the under 1,000cc world speed record of 184.087mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967 – hence the limited number of 1,967 being released. The record was set on a 1920 Indian Scout motorcycle that Burt Munro famously spend 20 years modifying himself.

It’s impossible to miss the many design features that have been included in the aesthetic of the Baume et Mercier Clifton Club Burt Munro Tribute watch to honour the motorcyclist. The white sandblasted finish of the dial recalls the salt flats of Bonneville while on the tachymeter you may notice the record number 184 is nicely highlighted.
The theme continues with Munro’s lucky number 35 taking a prominent spot in the 9 o clock sub-dial while the chronograph seconds hand is a tribute to the Indian bike used to break the record. The stylised “I” counterweight has been cleverly taken from the Indian Motorcycle logo. The gorgeous dark red calfskin leather strap has also been chosen to match the colour of his bike.
Measuring to 44mm, the stainless steel case back of the Baume et Mercier Clifton Club Burt Munro Tribute watch has been beautifully engraved with the Indian Motorcycle logo and the year 1901 for when the company was founded. But not only does the outside of the watch boast extensive detail, hidden within is the impressive Valjoux 7750 self winding movement which showcases a power reserve of 48 hours and 25 jewels.
