TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Black Titanium Watch Review

To mark the 10th anniversary of the TAG Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Black Titanium watch was unveiled at SIHH last month and is expected to hit stores very soon. Retailing at £3,800, this chronograph model features a new lightweight black titanium case and a distressed desert colour scheme.

TAG Heuer released their very first Carrera model back in 1963 and have since released many variations and anniversary editions of the familiar design. Jack Heuer stated in his autobiography that when he designed the very first TAG Heuer Carrera watch that he wanted ‘a dial that had a clear, clean look’. This new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Black Titanium watch proves to be no exception and remains another eloquent and bold addition to the Swiss brand’s collection.

The aesthetics of the piece don’t deviate too far from the existing models but what is clearly different is the striking 43mm titanium case with black PVD coating and beige coloured detailing. This stealthy desert shade is truly stunning and matches perfectly with the brown calfskin leather strap, two features that bring a distressed sophistication to the piece.

The dial is effortless to read with its Superluminova hour and minute hands and day-date feature at 3 o clock painted in an opposing white. Typical of the Carrera design, the large Arabic numerals also result in a clear appearance and the sandy coloured detail extends further around the dial onto the chronograph hands and the text around the seconds sub dial.

The movement within the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Black Titanium watch can be observed hard at work through the sapphire crystal open case back where you can see the Cotes de Genève engraving on the oscillating weight. The Calibre 16 movement that is used is the brand’s own version of the reliable ETA 7750 automatic movement and it impresses with a 42 hour power reserve, 100 metre water resistance and a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz).

The model is expected to be released towards the end of February but you can place a pre-order for it now at Jura Watches. For more information on this timepiece and where to get your own, click here.
