Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon Milano Blue Watch Review

Swapping out the previous monochromatic stage of silver platinum for one of Milano blue, Parmigiani Fleurier presents a new Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon Milano Blue watch with a mesmerising flying tourbillon complication at 7 o’clock.

It’s hard to believe it was only last month we were in Geneva, enjoying the delights of what this year’s Watches & Wonders 2023 had to offer. During our trip, we saw a number of fantastic watches but some of our personal favourites were those by Parmigiani Fleurier. Their Watches & Wonders 2023 releases were solely based around their Tonda PF collection which was launched two years ago for the brand’s 25th anniversary. It saw them enter the busy space of luxury sports watches, pairing ultra-thin movements with integrated cases and bracelets and beautifully finished dials. We’ve seen plenty of Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF watches since, including a special Flying Tourbillon model last year with a crisp silver platinum dial. Now reinterpreting that same reference with a more colourful display is the 2023 Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon Milano Blue watch.

The Tonda PF collection has always been about minimalism and refinement and the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon Milano Blue watch is no different. The lightweight case is crafted entirely from platinum with a soft sandblasted finish and measurements of 42mm in diameter and 8.6mm tall. The semi-detached lugs lead to a wide integrated bracelet with brushed finishing while the fixed bezel above has a interesting knurled effect for a touch of industrial-ness.  The watch maintains a 100 metre water resistance thanks to its screw down crown and opts for sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment for protection of the dial.

The dial of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon Milano Blue watch is where the newness can be found. While last year’s model elected a colourless silver platinum dial, this reference elects a stunning Milano blue shade with a finely grained matte finish. This is a departure from the barleycorn guilloché pattern found on the majority of designs in the Tonda PF collection, but it’s a decision that makes sense, as the pared down display draws your eye entirely to the flying tourbillon feature at 7 o’clock. The only other attributes of the dial are the skeletonised delta-shaped 18 carat gold hands, the hand-applied gold ruthenium-plated indices and the oval PF logo at 12 o’clock.

From the front, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon Milano Blue watch showcases its impressive tourbillon feature with a sharp blue hand and a golden balance wheel. Then from the rear, the rest of the movement is showcased in even more detail thanks to the exhibition case back. The movement on display is the calibre PF517, an automatic winding movement with beautiful Côtes de Genève decoration, hand-bevelled bridges and a barleycorn guilloché engraving on the platinum micro-rotor. The movement operates at 21,600vph and promises a power reserve of up to 48 hours.
