Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz King of the Court Special Edition Watch Review

For their latest release, Swiss watch manufacturer Maurice Lacroix reinterprets their popular Aikon Chronograph with the colours and logos of the King of the Court, an innovative sports format of beach volleyball. Let’s meet the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz King of the Court Special Edition watch

In 2021, Maurice Lacroix announced they were the official timekeeper of the King of the Court (KOTC) which sees elite athletes compete in volleyball tournaments all around the world. The sports series was founded by Dutch company Sportworx with an aim to bring beach volleyball closer to fans, framing courts with sky boxes and lining stadiums with ground level seating. Fans can get up close and personal with the players, enhancing the sense of pressure and anticipation. The King of the Court hosts many of the world’s greatest volleyball teams around the world including Maurice Lacroix brand ambassadors, the Beachvolley Vikings.

Stéphane Waser, Managing Director of Maurice Lacroix, speaks of the partnership: “Maurice Lacroix is the Official Timekeeper of KOTC and the reasons behind this partnership are numerous. Since the inaugural AIKON models were unveiled in 2016, Maurice Lacroix has repeatedly looked to the urban landscape for inspiration, creating watches for ambitious, driven individuals. Therefore, the notion of bringing sporting events to city centres immediately resonated with our brand.”

Wilco Nijland, CEO & founder of King of the Court adds: “Time is one of the key elements of our King of the Court sport discipline; it’s an elimination race in rounds of 15 minutes with the world’s best beach volleyball teams. With Maurice Lacroix we have, for us, the best possible watch brand on board for our very promising journey. The way Maurice Lacroix is approaching new and existing markets, with innovative watches, is very professional, ambitious, creative and brave. This fits so well with the vision and style of King of the Court.

The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz King of the Court Special Edition watch beautifully tributes the sporting event with a black, white and golden yellow aesthetic inspired by the corporate colours of the KOTC. The dial in particular upholds the colour palette with a silver sunray backdrop adorned with black snailed counter for the chronograph and small seconds and mustard yellow detailing on the chronograph seconds hand, 30 minute counter hand and 1/10th of a second hand. Yellow also marks the Arabic numerals on the black minutes track. Other features of the dial include rhodium faceted hours and minute hands with white Superluminova and black coated indexes.

Similarly, the strap of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz King of the Court watch is striped in black, yellow and white and set with a blackened M logo. The material used on the strap is known as FKM rubber, a premium material considered superior to conventional rubber straps for its improved flexibility, comfort and wearability. The band also features the Swiss watch brand’s easy-change system so you can easily swap it for another strap should you wish. It closes by a titanium pin buckle.

Titanium also makes up the case of the special edition watch, a material perfectly suited to the world of sport for its lightweight, hypoallergenic, and anti-corrosive properties. The case measures to 44mm in diameter and showcases the iconic Aikon six-prong bezel in titanium and a matching titanium screw in crown assisting in a water resistance of 100 metres. Turning the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz King of the Court Special Edition over reveals a stunning decorated case back engraved with the KOTC logo. The case back also protects the Swiss made quartz powered movement from view.
