Building on the success of the ever-growing BR 05 collection, the Swiss watch manufacturer launches yet another urban explorer’s timepiece with the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Green. It’s new olive green dial adds a nice touch of colour to the openwork centre pairing effortlessly with the stainless steel case and green rubber strap.
Since their founding in 1993, Bell & Ross have centred their attention on the field of military and pilot’s watches taking inspiration from aviation dashboard instruments and embodying them within square-shaped watches, most notably their BR 01 and BR 03 models. Then in 2019, the Paris-based brand launched the BR 05, a sporty-chic range of luxury sports watches, still inevitably Bell & Ross with the circle-within-a-square architecture but with new integrated bracelets, compact dimensions, and angular lines. The BR 05 quickly became the second icon of the house and in the last six months alone, we have seen several new additions to the collection including a BR 05 GMT watch, a BR 05 Diamond and a limited edition BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada.
For their next release, Bell & Ross delivers another example of the BR 05 Skeleton, a modern take on an openwork luxury sports watch. Previously, the design has been done in blue, silver, black, gold and in a Night Lum edition and now, the trendy shade of olive green is added to the skeletonised dial. For the dial of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Green watch, the brand chooses not to coat their movement in the new green colour but instead place it beneath a partially tinted olive green layer of sapphire crystal glass. The dial is also framed by a matching green-coloured inner flange which is set with metallic baton-shaped hour markers. The markers and the central hands for the hour and minutes are coated in glow in the dark Superluminova.
The rest of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Green watch mirrors the specifications of previous BR 05 Skeleton editions. We’re welcomed to the same square-shaped case with curved edges, a 40mm diameter, 10.33mm height and stainless steel construction. On top, the fixed bezel is secured by four screws and is treated to brushed finishings and large polished bevels. At 3 o’clock, a screw down crown is secured in place which alongside the screw down case back allows for a 100 metre water resistant rating. Like past references, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Green watch also comes a choice of two straps, the first an integrated stainless steel bracelet with brushed and polished surfaces and a three fold clasp or a green textured rubber strap closed by a folding buckle.
Placed centre stage at both the front and back of the watch is the Calibre BR-CAL.322 automatic winding movement. It is based on the SW300-1 produced by Sellita but it has been redesigned to include a stylised openwork rotor and openwork bridges both delivering a distinctively urban feel to the skeletonised dial and case back. Thanks to the movement, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Green watch delivers hours, minutes and seconds hands, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 38 hours.
