Considered the pinnacle of the Seiko sport watch, the LX line was only released earlier this year and we are already seeing an incredible selection of models to choose from, including these two new Seiko Prospex LX Limited Edition SNR041J1 and SNR043J1 watches. The series takes its name from the Latin word “lux” which translates to “light”, an inspiration reflected in each watch’s ability to shine a presence upon its wearer through a high aesthetic sense, practicability and precision.
The new Seiko Prospex LX Limited Edition watches are inspired by the relationship between the sea and sky and how the mesmerising lights from the sun and moon reflect across the water’s surface. The SNR041J1 is depicted in gorgeous violet gold and instantly recalls the effects of the sun at dawn while the SNR043J1 features dark platinum colouring inspired by the flickering moonlight at sea. Both models utilise cermet for the bezel which provides an unmissable lustre that is not possible using normal ceramic. For those that haven’t come across cermet before, it is a composite material composed of both ceramic and metal materials with incredible properties for wear including high temperature resistance and hardness. The material is also the perfect aesthetic choice for these shining Prospex LX Line watches.
In addition to the unidirectional cermet bezel, each Seiko Prospex LX Limited Edition watch comes presented with a 44.8mm case inspired by the original Seiko Professional Divers timepiece born in 1968. The violet gold SNR041J1 stainless steel case is polished using the brand’s famous Zaratsu technique which provides a stunning distortion-free finish. Meanwhile the dark platinum SNR043J1 watch is decorated in a striking black PVD coating bringing to life the mysterious scenery of silence at sea. Both timepieces also come with a water resistance of 300 metres and curved sapphire crystal glass renowned for its scratch resistance and treated with an anti-reflective coating.
To pair with the colour of the bezel, the Seiko Prospex LX Limited Edition watches come with matching dials decorated in either dark brown-gold or black. Both are equipped with large hour and minute hands and indexes layered in glow in the dark Lumibrite alongside a handy date window at 3 o clock and an power reserve indicator for 72 hours. We particularly love the dial of the dark platinum SNR043J1 watch with its addition of a contrasting yellow gold seconds hand reminiscent of reflecting moonlight.
The functions on the dial are powered by the brand’s celebrated Seiko Spring Drive movement, the Calibre 5R65. This incredible automatic winding movement has a unique and silent glide motion on the seconds hand and boasts a power reserve of 3 days when fully wound. Seiko Spring Drive watches have long been characterised as reliable and resistant to temperature variations and shocks. The Calibre 5R65 is no different and is perfectly equipped to take on any activity, from marine sports to climbing that come with risks of impact.
The self-winding movement is kept hidden behind a closed stainless steel case back decorated with the letters “LIMITED EDITION” and the limited edition number out of 200 pieces. Both the Seiko Prospex LX Limited Edition SNR041J1 watch and the SNR043J1 watch are limited to 200 pieces each, a small number for such highly desirable timepieces. To complete the look of each, the SNR041J1 is fitted with a stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp with a push-button diver-adjusted mechanism and the SNR043J1 comes with a sporty black rubber strap with the same three fold diving clasp coated in black PVD plating.
