Maurice Lacroix Updates the Aikon Quartz for 2022

Maurice Lacroix’s flagship watch, the Aikon, is re-served with a host of upgrades including cleaner surfaces, refined angles, smooth dials and the brand’s coveted Easy Strap Exchange system. Join us as we take a look at the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz watches for 2022, offered in two sizes 35mm and 40mm.

The Maurice Lacroix Aikon is quite easily the Swiss watch manufacturer’s greatest creation. It was first launched under a different name during the 1990’s, the Calypso, a design characterised by its luxury sports watch aesthetic which was pivotal to the brand’s early success in the industry. The composition of the Calypso was eventually reinterpreted for a modern day audience and launched as the Maurice Lacroix Aikon in 2016, first as a quartz model and then later as an automatic. The design is defined by its legendary integrated case, ratcheted six arm bezel and flat sapphire crystal glass, three core features that can be found within all of today’s Maurice Lacroix Aikon watches.

Over the years, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon watch collection has continued to grow. We’ve seen limited edition references, GMT models, the more complicated Aikon Master Grand Date with a openwork dial and stunning patina-pending bronze editions. More recently, Maurice Lacroix has begun a collaboration with #tide and with it engineered a selection of Maurice Lacroix Aikon Tide Quartz watches engineered from upcycled ocean-bound plastic waste and dressed in bold neon colours. Now, in the spirit of continuous improvement, Maurice Lacroix revisit their Aikon Quartz model once again to include better aesthetics and technologies in a range of 35mm and 40mm models.

What’s New for 2022 Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz?

A quick look at the Aikon Quartz models of last year compared to the new 2022 range, and you’ll see some subtle but important upgrades to the case and bracelet. Every curve, facet, line and surface has been refined, culminating in a new, clean-cut appearance for the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz watches. The cases still host the iconic six-arm bezel and are engineered from stainless steel, save for a pair of two-toned 35mm models utilising elements of yellow gold. There’s also still 100 metre water resistant ratings, flat sapphire crystal glass and a knurled screw in crown at 3 o’clock.

Also new for the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz watches is the addition of the brand’s Easy Strap Exchange system. This useful technology allows the wearer to remove the strap from their watch without the need for tools and swap it for an alternative. Currently, each of the new 35mm and 40mm models are equipped with integrated five-link metal bracelets, but you can also order extra leather, metal or rubber straps to swap the bracelet out with for a different look.

The dials of the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz watches also showcase some refined upgrades. While previous quartz editions of the Aikon featured square embossing across the centre, these new releases opt for a clean, smooth surface finished in sunbrushed opaline. The 40mm models are available with a black, blue or green dials while the 35mm ladies watches come in black, blue or white mother of pearl. There are two mother of pearl references, both with diamond coated indices and one with extra gemstones on the bezel.
