Bremont MWII Flying Tiger Watches Unveiled!

It’s been eight years since the release of the original Bremont MW Heli Chrono watch, an iconic timepiece that was the first by Bremont to have a black DLC case. For 2019, we are treated to the second installment: the Bremont MWII Flying Tiger, another magnificent limited edition that remains designed in collaboration with Michael Wong. The Chinese-American actor and avid aviator was eager to pay tribute to the American Volunteer Group (AVG) of the Chinese Air Force in 1941-1942, nicknamed the Flying Tigers.

The AVG Flying Tigers were a group of exceptional pilots from the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC), Navy (USN), and Marine Corps (USMC), enlisted under President Franklin Roosevelt’s Roosevelt’s authority before Pearl Harbour with a mission to fly with Chinese colours but under American control. The group consisted of three fighter squadrons of around 30 aircraft each with most of its staff volunteers from the U.S. military. During their service, they demonstrated impressive tactical victories that gave hope to America during a time when stories of defeat were prevalent. Before being disbanded in July 1942, the AVG pilots earned official credit and received combat bonuses for destroying 296 enemy aircraft, while losing only 14 pilots in combat.

“In my early flying career, I was able to start the first ever volunteer flying programme for kids in Hong Kong. I feel a great affinity with the Flying Tigers story, as they were volunteers, so keeping the AVG legacy alive is something I’m proud to support. Equally, having worked with Bremont before I’m excited to be furthering our story together and be introducing another great pilot’s watch.” – Michael Wong

The Bremont MWII Flying Tiger Limited Edition watches beautifully tribute this extraordinary group of men with the Flying Tigers logo decorating the centre of each dial above the Flying Tigers name translated in both English and Chinese. The watches are also detailed with a white stylised five-petal Hong Kong orchid tree, otherwise known as the Bauhinia blakeana flower and symbol of the Hong Kong flag, set on the end of the bottom crown while a star decorates the end of the top crown like that found on the Chinese flag.

Limited to only 500 pieces, the Bremont MWII Flying Tiger is based on Bremont’s iconic U-2 range developed and inspired by a select number of elite military squadrons. With significant aviation pedigree, the new limited edition finds itself perfectly at home with a 43mm stainless steel DLC Trip-Tick case complimented by a choice of three barrel colours: black, blue or bronze and a black DLC stainless steel bracelet or a black leather strap. The cases are also equipped with the brand’s legendary patented inner bidirectional Roto-Click bezel which is effortlessly operated by the crown at 4 o clock.

Hidden within each Bremont MWII Flying Tiger Limited Edition watch is the BE-36AE automatic chronometer movement, an in-house manufacture calibre with 25 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 bph and a 38 hour power reserve. You can witness the extraordinary power of the mechanical movement through the tinted black smoked glass exhibition case back as it provides classic hour, minutes and seconds hands and a date window at 3 o clock on the smooth black metal dial. The functions are made highly legible thanks to Bremont’s trademark vintage ‘51’ lume originally found on the Limited Edition P-51, alongside heat treated blue steeled hands.
