While the racetracks sit quiet and the stands lie empty, TAG Heuer reminds us of the excitement that awaits us all with their latest instalment of TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Chronographs. The extraordinary race car inspired aesthetic and intricate skeletonised dials remain true to the brand’s avant-garde identity while the remarkable Calibre Heuer 02 is just another reminder of their world-famous reputation for Swiss engineering.
The TAG Heuer Carrera watch collection has always been a favourite of ours, communicating the brand’s prowess and passion for motorsport to buyers that know nothing of their history. Originally launched in 1963 by Jack Heuer, the TAG Heuer Carrera watch was a remarkable modern race-ready chronograph inspired by the founder’s own love for the sport. The collection has evolved greatly since then, particularly with the introduction of TAG Heuer’s own in-house calibres including the Heuer 01 in 2015 and the legendary Heuer 02 in 2018. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph 43mm watches showcase the latter, a self-winding movement with column-wheel operated chronograph and an extraordinary power reserve of 80 hours.
We are treated to four new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph watches in total, each boasting their own unique design that is sure to tempt tastes of every type. The first is presented with a stainless steel case, blue ceramic bezel and blue dial. The second is fully engineered from black ceramic including a black ceramic bezel and dial. The third is black and gold with a black ceramic case and bezel, rose gold PVD lugs and black and rose gold dial. The fourth is similar to the previous but has a black ceramic case, 18 carat rose gold bezel and lugs and black and rose gold dial.
Each case measures to 43mm in size, a suitable size for most wrists but be aware these timepieces sit much largely on the wrist than expected with their tall fixed bezels decorated with a tachymeter scale. With that being said, the sleek lugs allow the TAG Heuer watch to sit comfortably on the wrist as does the strap variant available in black ceramic, stainless steel, rubber or leather. The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph watches also ensure a water resistant rating of 100 metres and knurled crown and chronograph pushers for ease of use even with thick racing gloves on.
Housed beneath curved scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass is the breathtaking centrepiece skeletonised dial. Some of the 168 components and 33 jewels of the Calibre Heuer 02 automatic winding movement can be witnessed through the dial and through the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. The Swiss made movement continues to impress with Superluminova coated hour and minute hands, central chronograph seconds, date window at 4.30H and three subsidiary dials for continuous seconds, 12 hour counter and 30 seconds counter.
Retailing from £4,850, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 Chronograph 43mm watches offer a hell-of-a-lot for their buck while their adrenaline-filled aesthetics provide us all with some much needed excitement.
