Brand new for 2020, TAG Heuer have unveiled a stunning new collection of TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 watches designed especially for professional drivers, sports-car enthusiasts – or if you’re like us – lovers of finely crafted timepieces. TAG seem to be pushing their Carrera collection firmly this year, with several new limited edition designs debuting alongside these four new core models which feature the brand’s new Heuer 02 manufacture movement.
TAG Heuer have had a long, unbreakable connection to the world of motor racing, pretty much ever since the Carrera collection was first unveiled in 1963. Jack Heuer, great grandson of the founder of TAG Heuer watches, stated in his autobiography that when he designed the very first TAG Heuer Carrera watch, he wanted ‘a dial that had a clear, clean look’. It was his love of modern art and architecture that informed the iconic TAG Heuer Career that we see today, with its clean, easy to read dial, and simple aesthetic that provides optimal legibility at high speeds and in all lighting conditions.
For this summer, we are treated to four new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 watches each with their own unique elegance and sporting spirit. The first comes with a blue dial, matching blue ceramic bezel and stainless steel bracelet while the second similarly comes with a steel bracelet but with a black dial and a black ceramic bezel. Our favourite out of the four is the third model, which comes with a unique green dial – a colour TAG Heuer doesn’t experiment with often, a plain steel bezel and a steel bracelet. Lastly, the fourth option features a stunning black dial with rose gold accents, a black ceramic bezel with rose gold typography, 18 carat rose gold crown and pushers and a black alligator leather strap.
Each TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 watch measures to 44mm in size and is primarily engineered from polished stainless steel. The parallel and elongated lugs, typical of the Carrera, allows each piece to feel solid and sturdy on the wrist yet thanks to its slim profile it easily slips under a shirt cuff for an elegant finish. The cases are fitted with fixed bezels, crafted from steel or ceramic, and decorated with a tachymeter scale – another iconic feature of the TAG Heuer Carrera. The tachymeter is purposely designed to be used alongside the chronograph function so its wearer can easily determine the speed of a moving object, like a race car.
One of the brand’s latest manufacture movements, the Calibre Heuer 02, makes another debut within the new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 watches, showcased both through the complications on the dial and through the exhibition case back. The in-house Swiss made movement is made with a vertical clutch and column wheel, two signatures of an improved chronograph timekeeping and high quality movements. The calibre also has 33 jewels and promises a power reserve of 80 hours and a frequency of 28,800vph.
Boasting a 100 metre water resistant rating assisted by the screw down crown, the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 watches are protected by domed and bevelled sapphire crystal glass for enhanced readability. Their dials are also detailed with Superluminova on the central hour and minute hands and indexes and provide hours, minutes and small seconds, chronograph seconds, 30 minutes counter, 12 hours counter and a date window.
For more than 160 years, TAG Heuer has led, never followed, setting its own rules and driving watchmaking into uncharted territories.
