Oris Aquis Hangang Limited Edition Watch Review

Continuing their mission to protect, clean and restore the world’s water, Oris have unveiled their latest limited edition designed to support and encourage ocean and lake conservation: the Oris Aquis Hangang. Their Change for the Better mission has coincided with some remarkable timepieces from the brand including the Oris Lake Baikal, the Carysfort Reef Limited Edition, the Oris Great Barrier Reef limited edition trio and the Clean Up watch, all which have raised funds for various causes.

This time, Oris is heading east and partnering up with Seoul KFEM, part of the Korean Federation for Environmental Movements. The new Oris Aquis Hangang Limited Edition has been issued alongside the association to highlight the plights of the Hangang River in South Korea. The Hangang river is an incredibly important water source in South Korea, supplying water to the 10 million inhabitants living in the country’s capital, Seoul. However, due to years of neglect, the river has become polluted and is now in need of restoration. Cleaning up the world’s water is too big of a task for anyone to do alone, so it is thanks to Oris and their Change for the Better campaign and partnerships with Seoul KFEM that projects like this can happen.

With every passing year, we grow more passionate about our mission,’ says Oris Co-CEO Rolf Studer. ‘Conserving the world’s water is critical; it’s also possible if we work together. That’s the underlying message behind the Oris Hangang Limited Edition and every piece we create with our partners.

Alongside the release of the Oris Aquis Hangang Limited Edition watch, Oris will be supporting a series of clean-up days later this year where hundreds of locals will be working along the river to pick up litter, plastic, and other harmful pollutants of the water. The event will also help raise awareness for the importance of clean water in Seoul and the effects littering and pollution can have. The sales of each 2,000 limited piece of the Oris Aquis Hangang watch will also help fund the Hangang clean-up project.

The watch itself is absolutely stunning, just as you would expect from another water-conservation inspired Oris limited edition. It is based on the Swiss brand’s iconic Aquis diver’s model with a 43.5mm stainless steel case and unidirectional ratcheted rotating bezel with a dark green ceramic insert perfect for safely recording dive times. The 300 metre water resistant case is fitted with domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on the inside, a screw in crown and a classic stainless steel metal bracelet fitted with a folding clasp with divers’ extension.

The stunning green ceramic bezel pairs beautifully with the centrepiece gradient green dial, inspired by the creek waters found at the Hangang’s source. For optimal legibility under the waters, the dial of the Oris Aquis Hangang Limited Edition is decorated with Superluminova coated indices and hands powered by the Oris 743 automatic winding movement. Boasting 28 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 38 hours, the Oris 743 calibre brings to life classic centre hands for hours and minutes, a continuous small seconds counter at 9 o’clock and a circular date window with white indicator. The movement is kept hidden behind a closed case back beautifully engraved with a map of Hangang’s path across Korea and a unique limited edition number out of 2,000 pieces.

Despite its release just this morning, the Oris Aquis Hangang Limited Edition watch is already available to order on the Jura Watches website with interest free finance and free delivery.
