It was only a week or so ago that we got to try on the new NORQAIN Wild One collection for ourselves (you can read more on that here). The series debuts a new proprietary material the brand calls NORTEQ that is six times lighter than steel and three-and-a-half times lighter than titanium. The concept was instigated by Advisor to the Board and industry legend, Jean-Claude Biver, who alongside CEO Ben Küffer wanted to create a watch material never done before that still upheld the brand’s philosophy for durability in adventure. The NORTEQ case material is created using carbon fibre and a polymer matrix of 60% castor oil allowing each 42mm diameter to weigh only 84 grams. The case is also designed as a protective cage of the movement inside, equipped with a rubber shock absorber which surrounds the titanium container housing the movement. This allows each NORQAIN Wild One watch to withstand shock tests conducted at 5000G.
The case of the new NORQAIN Wild One New York Marathon Limited Edition watch is no different boasting its own black NORTEQ case and sporty white rubber shock absorbers. The case retains its 42mm diameter, sapphire crystal glass and screw down crown overmoulded with black rubber and stamped with the NORQAIN logo. The combination of its lightweight architecture and rubber and titanium-protected movement makes the design perfect for running in any environment. There’s also a water resistance of 200 metres. In honour of the race it commemorates, the sapphire crystal case back is decorated with the logo of the New York City marathon. Since it’s an exhibition case back, you’ll also get a view of the automatic winding movement inside.
Securing the NORQAIN Wild One New York Marathon watch to the wrist is an integrated white rubber strap adorned with a Milanese texture and a contrasting black edge. You can also opt for an all-black rubber strap. Matching the monochromatic design is the centrepiece dial which features a black backdrop and a grey outline of the racecourse through a black and grey map of New York City. The hardware for the hour markers and hands for the hours, minutes and seconds hands follow suit to other designs in the NORQAIN Independence collection with skeletonised detailing and tips of glow in the dark X1 Superluminova.
Powering the time-only display of the NORQAIN Wild One New York Marathon Limited Edition is an automatic movement, the calibre NN20/1, made by Swiss movement specialist Kenissi. It is COSC certified and boasts a confident frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, a 70-hour power reserve and 28 jewels. Decoration of the movement is kept simple with vertical brushing of the oscillating rotor and the double N NORQAIN logo engraved in gold.
