Junghans Meister Worldtimer Watch Review

Junghans Meister Worldtimer Watch Review

Serving as a reminder that the delights of travel await us all, the new Junghans Meister Worldtimer watch collection delivers all 24 time zones at an easy glance by correlating the hour disc with cities on the dial. It’s conventionally classic and traditionally elegant aesthetic is described as an “embodiment of the earth’s perpetual motion” and at a time when contacting loved ones across the sea is more important than ever, the new Worldtimer provides an invaluable reminder that we are all living in precisely the same moment.

Since its release in the 1930’s, the Junghans Meister collection has presented an outstanding range of evolutions from the iconic Meister Chronoscope to the Meister Classic, Meister Pilot and more recently, the radio-controlled Meister MEGA. All of these families pay homage to the design and technical achievements of the German watch manufacturer, with the name ‘Meister’ deliberately translating to ‘master’. The new Junghans Meister Worldtimer continues their fascination with form and technology with a remarkable 24-hour complication that elegantly exhibits the perpetual movement of our lives, our relationships and the world.

Currently, the Junghans Meister Worldtimer watch collection consists of eight models including four key designs each with a choice of hard plexiglass with coating for enhanced scratch resistance or domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflection coating on both sides. Over the last two years, Junghans have increased their use of sapphire crystal, having only utilized it on certain limited editions or “higher-end” models. The demand for the quality material to be used in their core collections was heeded and Junghans fans, us included, are delighted most of their designs now include the option of sapphire crystal.

Measuring to 40.4mm in diameter and a slender 10.5mm in height, the Junghans Meister Worldtimer collection delivers two designs in classic stainless steel and two in yellow gold PVD stainless steel. The stainless steel models come with a choice of a blue dial and blue calfskin leather strap or a matte silver plated dial with a stunning fine link stainless steel bracelet. One of the yellow gold PVD variants also comes with a matte silver plated dial but on a taupe brown leather strap while the last model features a gold PVD case, galvanic anthracite dial and a black calfskin leather strap.

The real centrepiece to this release is the dial and its radial aperture that reveals a grey hour disc with 24 different locations displayed simultaneously. Each city is allocated to every hour of the day in its respective time zone and paired with numerals in black for the night-time hours between 7pm and 6am and numerals in white for daytime hours between 7am and 6pm. This, along with the convex arrangement of the main indices and the elegant dauphin-shaped central hands, allows the Junghans Meister Worldtimer to generate precise and easy-to-read information at a quick glance.

Powering the world timer function is the self-winding mechanical J820.5 movement which promises a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 42 hours. The 25 jewelled calibre features Incabloc shock protection to safeguard the movement’s wheels and pivots from damage in the event of pivotal shock while its intricate composition is on display through the 5-times screwed, 30 metre water resistant glass case back.
