Junghans Meister S Chronoscope Limited Edition Watch Review

Limited to 888 pieces, the new Junghans Meister S Chronoscope is one of the German watch manufacturer’s latest releases boasting an interplay of sporty, masculine and elegant finishes. The Junghans Meister collection has long been one of the brand’s most sophisticated and highly engineered designs and this new limited edition perfectly captures its purpose for luxury everyday wear with resilient sapphire crystal, a brushed stainless steel and black PVD-coated case and a finely detailed rubber and leather strap.

Junghans describes the Junghans Meister S Chronoscope Limited Edition as “in a class of its own” by embodying all principles of the Schramberg-based watch manufacturer with uncompromising style. Only exceptional timepieces are granted the title of ‘Meister’ for their reputation with legendary functionality, design and durability. Promising all this and more, the new Junghans release reminds us of the racetrack, and we have a strong feeling its pulse racing aesthetic will find its way to the wrists of the most exhilarating of wearers.

Its sporty design begins with the 45mm stainless steel case where large parts are coated in a smooth matte black PVD coating while streamlined elements around the bezel and lugs are left bare in a contrast of brushed steel. The edge of the case also runs thicker as is runs dynamically towards the screwed crown to form a solid surround. The screw in crown assists in providing the 200 metre water resistance while the thick sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both sides provides effective durability and effortless legibility over the dial.

For us, the matte anthracite dial is the real centrepiece to the Junghans Meister S Chronoscope Limited Edition, bringing to life its unique masculine identity. The stunning interplay between the convex dial and concave immersion of the totalizers therein instantly reminds us of adrenaline-filled sports like motor racing – particularly the articulately embossed main indices that look a lot like gas pedals. The minute track is also engraved relief-like in the hour markers, almost immersed into the ring of the dial while the dial’s open spaced form accentuates the dynamic effortless of the hands decorated in glow in the dark luminous coating.

As we would expect from a Junghans watch labelled “Meister”, functionality is made a priority. The J880.1 automatic winding calibre, based on ETA 7750, brings to life an incredible range of complications on the dial including central hands for hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, small continuous seconds, two chronograph counter for 12 hours and 30 minutes and two day and date windows at 3 o clock. The 25 jewelled calibre also promises a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour and a healthy power reserve of 48 hours.

To complete the look of the Junghans Meister S Chronoscope Limited Edition, a synthetic rubber strap with leather inlay is added for a sporty, autonomous, yet elegant finish. The name of the watch is boldly emblazoned on the underside of the strap while fitted on the end is a classic stainless steel and black PVD coated folding clasp.
