Bremont RFU 150 Limited Edition Watch Review

Arriving just in time for the first Six Nations game of the year this weekend, British watch manufacturer Bremont have announced the arrival of their remarkable new Bremont RFU 150 Limited Edition watch. Designed in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), a small but mighty 150 pieces has been released to mark the historic occasion and celebrate both establishments shared passions for performance, precision, and technical ability.

Last year, in time for the 2020 Six Nations, Bremont announced they were the new Official Timing Partner to both England Rugby and Twickenham Stadium, providing all of Twickenham stadiums with official Bremont time-related match day content including match clocks showcased around the arena. To kick start the partnership, they also produced their first England Rugby-inspired timepiece nicknamed the “Bremont Rose”. The new Bremont RFU 150 Limited Edition is an extension of the collection, this time honouring a veritable milestone in British sporting history when the Rugby Football Union was originally formed on 26th January 1871. Alongside the new release, Bremont are also excited to announce they will be advertising on TV for the first time during the first England Six Nations game this Saturday 6th February.

It was an incredibly proud moment for me when I first saw Bremont timekeeping presiding over play at Twickenham, both an iconic stadium and an English institution. It has obviously been an incredibly challenging year for sport but not being able to enjoy sport in the same way has certainly highlighted its importance for so many. England Rugby really is as good as it gets and speaks to the core of what Bremont has always been about with our maxim of being Tested Beyond Endurance. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the Guinness Six Nations kick off and we’re thrilled to be part of these anniversary celebrations, commemorating such a landmark year in the sport.” –  Giles English, Co-Founder of Bremont

CASE & BEZEL

Dressed in satin polished stainless steel, the case of the new Bremont RFU 150 Limited Edition watch measures to 43mm in diameter and is topped by a handsome blue ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel. The bezel has been purposely designed to allow keen timekeepers to keep an eye on the match playing time with unique indicators. Between 35 and 40 minutes, you can monitor the approach of half time and full time in red and any extra-time added on in the additional five white increments that follow.

In typical Bremont fashion, the Bremont RFU 150 GMT watch ensures exceptional durability and resistance to everyday wear with a protective patented anti-shock movement mount, an automatic helium escape valve and a crown protector. Also assisting in its water resistance of 500 metres, the Bremont limited edition showcases a spectacular screw down case back engineered from stainless steel and decorated with a special design inspired by the very Heritage Rose emblem, a design that first appeared on player’s caps in 1871 and remains on them to this day.

MOVEMENT

Hidden within the Bremont RFU 150 Limited Edition watch is the modified calibre 11 1/4’’’ BE-93-2AV automatic movement, a COSC-certified chronometer calibre with 21 Jewels, a Glucydur balance, Anachron balance spring, and a Nivaflex mainspring. Alongside its classic central hands for hours, minutes and seconds, date window at 3 o’clock and 24 hour GMT hand, the mechanical movement delivers a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a healthy power reserve of 42 hours.

DIAL & STRAP

Like the Bremont Rose watch released last year, the new Bremont RFU 150 Limited Edition features a dial design tailored entirely around the sport it commemorates. The blue metal backdrop takes inspiration from the colours of England’s current alternative team kit while the hands, dressed in white with red tips, uncovers the colours of their first team kit back in 1871. The dial is also adorned with the founding year “1871” at 12 o’clock beneath the Bremont logo and the word “Twickenham” at the base in homage to the stadium.

Providing optimal legibility in all lighting conditions, the dial of the Bremont RFU 150 watch is equipped with Superluminova on the hours and minutes hands, on the tip of the seconds and GMT hands, the applied indexes and Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9. To fasten the limited edition to your wrist, the piece is delivered on a 22mm satin polished stainless steel bracelet with folding buckle and push button release.
