A Sea of Green – Unveiling Doxa Sea Emerald Green variants

Doxa expands its captivating Sea Emerald Green colour across its other popular dive watch collections.

Doxa is yet another brand that is demonstrating a sharp turn towards the smaller-sized watch. It’s a welcomed change for those who have always struggled to carry off anything larger than a 40mm watch, especially those with a soft spot for the classic diver. For as long as this trend continues, we will keep covering it, because there are still plenty of watch collectors out there that aren’t yet aware of just how many manageable options are available to them.

So many reputable watchmakers are releasing smaller versions of their most popular designs. While this is particularly fitting for remastered vintage favourites and highly sought-after retro-inspired dive tools from yesteryear, the same can also be said for brands specialising in the common dress watch and simple three-handers. Still, wherever Doxa is concerned, you know we’re covering a popular dive tool. The Sub 200T was released a few months ago, now in a smaller size and rocking a breathtakingly beautiful emerald green dial. It featured gold-toned hour markers and hands, along with the usual 200-meter water-resistant case and reliable automatic movement. Now, the brand is extending that mesmerising emerald green colour to other popular Doxa dive watch collections, including the Sub 200, the Sub 300, the Sub 300T, the Sub 300 Carbon, and the Sub 600T.

The Evolution of the Sea Emerald Green

Not so long ago, Doxa revealed a new case size for its popular helmet-shaped dive watch. It releases the 200T in a very appealing 39mm case, having already spent years dabbling in different case materials and colour combinations. While 41-42mm case sizes used to be considered the norm, we have seen a shift over the past 18 months (or so) to a smaller and more compact case size. And with only minor concessions to think about, there was very little to fault in the new 39mm Sub 200T design. It offered a length of 41.5mm and a depth of 10.70mm, making for an overall compact, comfortable and unimposing size for the wrist. The emblematic barrel-shaped case stayed, as did the flat anti-glare sapphire crystal glass top, framed by a unidirectional rotating bezel. Alongside the stunning new Sea Emerald green colour was an option to enjoy any of the brand’s previous colours (Professional Orange, Searambler Silver, Sharkhunter Black, Caribbean Navy, Divingstar Yellow, Aquamarine Turquoise and Whitepearl White) in a flat or sunray-brushed dial effect. Aside from that, however, the watch retained all the important Sub 200T features, including 200-meter water resistance, a reliable automatic movement and several strap options, including rubber, stainless steel or a steel Milanese bracelet.

Now With a NATO Strap

Alongside a slew of new dive watches from Doxa, all carrying the rich green dial hue, the brand also introduced the option of a NATO-style strap. The NATO band was originally designed for the military. Back when watches became suitable for wristwear, leather was the standardised option available across all military ranks. But as time went on, soldiers, engineers, pilots, and sailors began to lean towards the option of using the material strap and had to officially file a request for one. Today this style of strap is worn for its robustness and its comfort. NATO straps are easy to clean and quick to change. Seldom has a combination of emerald green dial hues and the military ruggedness of the NATO strap been done to such a high standard, and, for me, it makes for one of the most interesting configurations of the year.

The New Doxa Sea Emerald Green Watches

It’s only natural that our minds automatically jump to Doxa’s famous Professional Orange colour when we talk about the brand. After all, it carved out a legacy for itself in the dive watch field during the 60s. But the new Sea Emerald Green dials of the Sub 200Sub 300Sub 300TSub 600T and Sub 300 Carbon all boast the irresistible sunburst dial finish, which adds another layer of depth to each design. Indeed, when given by sunlight, these dials all offer up their respective hour tracks and handset in the most legible way. Some hands even come in a steel or blackened steel finish.

Marking the 8th official Doxa dial colour, these new deep green dials capture light beautifully, creating an interplay of shadows, reflections and varying degrees of tones and nuances that make the Doxa dive watch all the more intriguing, irrelevant of any specific model.

The Doxa Sub 200 and 200T

Of course, the Sub 200 and Sub 200T is the entry-level dive watch for Doxa fans, but understandably, one of the most popular, too. The line is made up of watches that measure a larger 42mm or a smaller 39mm diameter. The models offer 200-meter water resistance, as their name suggests, and feature strong sapphire crystal glass tops and a robust steel case.

The Doxa Sub 300 and 300T

The Doxa Sub 300 and 300T share many characteristics, as well as their new captivating green dial colour. The new models of the range actually offer 1,200 meters of water resistance, a unidirectional rotating bezel and an ETA movement for uncompromised reliability. Both also feature luminous-coated dial features and are available in different strap options. The Doxa 300T, however, has a sapphire glass that sits more flush with the bezel rather than the box-style sapphire of the Sub 300. The Sub 300T is also a little thicker in profile.

Doxa Sub 300 Carbon Sea Emerald

As you will have guessed from the name, the Sub 300 Carbon is constructed from black carbon, giving it a utilitarian and resolutely sporty look. The watch features the US Navy’s no-decompression limit table and the brand’s patented bezel, which uses two separate scales to show depth and minutes simultaneously.

Doxa Sub 600T Sea Emerald

You can take an educated guess at the Doxa Sub 600T watches in that they both offer a 600-meter water resistance, but these watches display a blocky, more angular case shape that gives the watch a decidedly more masculine and aggressive aesthetic. Both are equipped with a helium escape valve too and despite their chunky exteriors, wear considerably well on the wrist.

Benefiting from the intense green nuances of the Sea Emerald Green dial colour, these new releases prove that Doxa is always looking for innovative ways to keep dive watch collecting exciting and fresh.
