Perrelet Turbine Seigaiha Limited Edition Watch Review

For their latest creation, Bienne-based watch manufacturer Perrelet utilises the Seigaiha wave pattern at the centre of its free-spinning dial for a mesmerising display of colour and manufacture. The Perrelet Turbine Seigaiha watch is a limited edition of only 20 pieces and is available to order now.

The Perrelet Turbine watch is easily the brand’s hallmark design. It was first launched back in 2009 and is defined by the unconventional turbine blades placed on the dial which act as a front-positioned oscillating weight. The idea is that with each spin of the blades, the automatic movement is powered by and delivers precise timing of the hands. On top of that, the blades are often placed above bold colours and patterns for mesmerising optical illusions and hide-and-seek effects. Over the years, we’ve seen the Perrelet Turbine watch collection evolve to include pilots watches and chronographs to GMT models and dressier Turbine EVO models. Now as part of the classic core collection, the Swiss watch manufacturer unveils a new Perrelet Turbine Seigaiha Limited Edition which honours a famous Japanese pattern.

Beneath a set of 12 black anodised aluminium blades, the Perrelet Turbine Seigaiha Limited Edition watch delivers a stunning Seigaiha motif depicted in red and white. This wave pattern is an ancestral Japanese decoration first seen during the 6th century. ‘Seigaiha’ translates to ‘blue sea and waves” and was often used to depict water on maps with the concentric circles illustrating moving waves. In Japanese culture, the motif is also known to symbolise power and resistance and has been used to adorn kimonos, ceramicware and lacquerware.

Now adorning the Perrelet Turbine Seigaiha Limited Edition watch, the Seigaiha motif matches its red and white palette with additional accents on the dial including the large white Arabic numerals and indices and matching white hour and minute hands. All of these accents ensure easy legibility with Superluminova inserts. Inflections of red can then be found on the 1 to 12 numerals on the outer flange and on the sleek seconds hand.

Matching with the black aluminium rotor, the case of the Perrelet Turbine Seigaiha watch is also finished in black but this time engineered from stainless steel with a black DLC coating. The case measures to 44mm in diameter and 13mm in height and comes equipped with an integrated crown at 3 o’clock, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and an exhibition case back promising a water resistance of 50 metres. The limited edition secures to the wrist by a black alligator leather strap detailed with contrasting red stitching and a black PVD steel folding buckle engraved with the Perrelet logo.

Powering the Perrelet Turbine Seigaiha Limited Edition is one of the brand’s own manufacture movements. The P-331-MH self-winding calibre is both Chronofiable and COSC certified meaning its levels of accuracy are near unbeatable. Alongside the classic hours, minutes and seconds hand, we’re welcomed to a 42 hour power reserve, 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800vph. You can admire the movement through the case back alongside its open-worked rhodium-plated oscillating weight personalised with the logo of the House.

The case back also reveals the Perrelet Turbine Seigaiha’s limited edition status out of 20 pieces and on delivery, you’ll receive it in a gorgeous watch box customised with the waves of the traditional Japanese motif on the inside. The retail price is £4,980.
