Jaeger-LeCoultre, with their origins high in the mountains of Switzerland - Vallée de Joux to be exact, are sponsoring an extreme challenge in Nepal. That is, the ascent of a mountain that has never been climbed before.
The team is made up of three experienced mountaineers: Stéphane Schaffter, an outstanding Swiss alpinist and team leader; Apa Sherpa, who has climbed Everest no less than 19 times; and Little Karim, who has accompanied many great sportsmen in their over 8,000-metre high-altitude expeditions.
A challenge of this sort calls for timekeeping instruments that are reliable and accurate, that are able to withstand the extreme conditions of the harsh Himalayas. The mountaineers will be climbing with three exceptional Jaeger LeCoultre watches : the famous 1958 Geophysic Chronometer; the Master Compressor Extreme LAB and a third new extreme creation specifically developed in the Manufacture workshops.
The Master Compressor Extreme LAB operates without oil or grease and is capable of running for years without deterioration or wear. New lighter and sturdier materials are used in the escapement. Jaeger-LeCoultre have filed for six patents for the unique high-tech exterior and the movement of this innovative watch.
You can find out more about the three climbers and read an interview with Stéphane Schaffter by signing up for Jaeger-LeCoultre’s LeClub (registration is free). You can also follow the team live here.
